which PAL games deserve to be played at 60Hz?
the question is all in the title
just wondering if you have encountered some Amiga games that worth a re-play at 60Hz too |

Power drift might be A BIT more playable at 60 mhz, albeit the best is in a 1200;
Super Hang on might be a bit smoother, and same for R-Type 2 and Atomic Robo Kid (should have musics at the right NTSC speed) AfterBurner US should get a little of speed boost too Last one i know should be marble madness |

Lotus series was great at 60Hz except for the music, but ok with 2 as it had none when driving.

[ Show youtube player ] Never tried Atomic Robo-kid in 60hz, might give that a go. Lotus II runs with zero frame drops in NTSC, one of the finest bits of coding on the Amiga for me. I have run Shadow of the Beast successfully on an NTSC A500 config on WinUAE. |

almost an empty page for me
bitd i had an ocs A500 just later, when i got the A1200 i have tried a bunch of titles, but ok also cause the 68020 and AGA the compatibility result was i think much lower than real back to today, yes i have already tried both the Lotus titles and Super Hang On and yes i can say they are much better played at 60 Hz; Also tried Gods, and his crappy scrolling seemed a bit better at 60Hz R-Type 2 yeah why not, maybe to get rid of the slowdowns? |

Stunt Car for sure. I always brings this one up because I presume most play it in pal and assume it's really no different other than the speed up. But the thing is it seems to run more authentically this way as in the physics seem more realistic. Not just a little faster but accurate to what you 'd expect and I always wondered if Geoff Crammond wrote for this first. And if he didn't, I still say it's better this way. Not as noticeable in 7mhz but crank it up just a touch and with NTSC it's a remarkably better experience
Try it |

I try to run every single game in 60 Hz as long as they have not been designed with full screen 50 Hz in mind.
I despise the typical "black border" at the bottom of the screen on many Amiga games, especially when title screens and menues sometimes were designed in full screen... not only does it look ugly as hell, but also it makes these particular graphics cut at the bottom if run in 60 Hz. Worst offenders are the games that looks great in 60 Hz but are hardcoded to 50 Hz so that the gameplay breaks down into pieces in 60 Hz. Rainbow Islands feels great to play in 60 Hz fullscreen, a much smoother experience, but the score bar at the top jumps around a pixel in height and some other (small) graphic glitches mar the visual experience. I actually chose this way of playing anyways, due to the smoother gameplay and more arcadelike experience. I guess often the black border at the bottom is due to games being developed for systems primarily running in 320*200, somewhat lazily ported to the Amiga without giving the choice of running in 60 Hz full screen... and then in the process someone felt it being a good idea to throw in some full screen glory in the non gameplay parts just for the sake of it all. |

Try Supercars 2 AGA. Made a special NTSC bottom panel squeeze.
60Hz was not possible for some games because of CPU limitation. But with a faster CPU most games can stomach the extra speed required to render frames faster. Another issue is that games are probably harder that way. Some just weren't tested and lock up. Maybe that can be fixed. I had reports that Chaos Engine AGA wasn't working for instance. Don't forget that Amiga market is mostly Europe, which used 50Hz. talking bout the bitmap games, and Gods, there's an official NTSC version, maybe it's better because the timing must have been fixed (there were NTSC versions of Gods, Speedball 2 and Magic Pockets Bitmap Games, not the others masterpieces AFAIK) Last edited by jotd; 07 April 2023 at 10:21. |

I think all Psygnosis and EA games are good to go in NTSC. There are games like Captain Planet which run in NTSC and seem to be play smoother and more responsive but you will lose the fancy graphic at the bottom of the screen which doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

totally played, i think it gains some points better scrolling, and most important the faster response when you need to turn the hero left or right, when the enemies are coming from both ways |

Prince of Persia 60hz version is much better, the graphics are the correct aspect ratio.
Zeewolf is better in 60hz (as well as bigger cpu/fastram), faster and without the border. |
