WinUAE 1.4.4 public beta series

Read before replying: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=26715

New main feature: removable directory filesystem support.

http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae_1440b1.zip

Beta 1:

- ROM scan now always scans all detected ROM paths (skips duplicate paths)
- zero sized files inside archives could have caused illegal accesses in some cases
- return HFERR_NoBoard, not IOERR_OPENFAIL when opening non-existing uaehf.device units. Fixes problem with <OS3.5 hdtoolbox versions not detecting hardfiles that are not in topmost position in harddisk panel.
- if blitter line draw with onedot-mode enabled, blitter does not write non-drawn pixel words back to chip ram (it becomes free bus cycle)
- -datapath fixed, again and again, it seems to never work properly..
- CD32 statefile support works again
- paths-panel adjustments, "new" path (in All Users) is only created if selected in paths-panel.
- directory filesystem ACTION_WRITE_PROTECT packet implemented (AmigaDOS Lock-command) Note: "hardware" lock (read-only status in configuration file/GUI) can't be unlocked with Lock-command.
- directory filesystem ACTION_INHIBIT implemented (not really needed but it uses same functions as removable drive support)
- directory filesystem ACTION_MORE_CACHE implemented (Addbuffers), No-op, currently always returns 50 and flushes file/dir cache.
- directory filesystem ACTION_FLUSH_CACHE implemented, flushes file/dir cache.
- possible filecomment leak/access error in fsdb/streams support
- filesystem ACTION_WRITE optimized (no temporary buffer if memory is directly accessable, optimization copied from ACTION_READ)
- removable directory filesystem support added
* it is not possible to add new devices after emulation has been started (workaround: add 1 or more empty drives = add new directory without device/volume name or path)
* only volume name gets removed (like CD0: without CD inserted)
* GUI can't be used to insert/remove harddrives. Yet. I don't know how to make it easy to use..
* drag'n'drop (directories or files/archives) to WinUAE's window is currently the only way to test removable drive support. Note that only drives that were empty when emulation was started will be remounted. (It is quite bad idea to remove OS/boot drive..)
* weird things can happen if files are open when changing drive
* volume name is automatically generated from directory or file name
* very useful when installing software, just drag and drop installation package (lha-archive for example) and run it. No need for temporarily locations or worry about losing flags or file comments.
* overrides normal (executables -> floppy drive, configuration file -> restart emulation etc..) drag and drop function if GUI is not active and dropped file/directory gets accepted by filesystem.
- CPU emulation and other cleanups (Bernd Schmidt!)
- X-Power Professional 500 v1.3 supported
- Nordic Power v1.5 supported
- compiled with MSVS 2008 (Orcas) Beta 2

Was this one of the things you discovered with you logic analyser?

Hello Toni, i come back with a problem about Leander from Psygnosis.

You remember the graphic bug i have reported a moment ago ? the colored raster that what broken in the game is still broken but it's a bit better
Juste check the screen i have posted below on the left the game on winuae 143, and on the right
winuae 144 beta.

PS : i have tested the game also on my girlie PC, the game has the bug....

Also, the game has some end music in the outro. On my a1230 the music plays, while in winuae with an A1200 quickstart-configuration it fails, the music stutter and nothing can be heard.

@Toni:
And there he already strikes again!

Thanks a lot for new beta, cannot wait to test.

@dlfrsilver: I haven't tried Leander again in a while, since it worked perfect for me in some older 1.4.3 beta. Did you try A500 config? In fact I dunno why you would want to try it in A1200 mode... it is A500 game and might not even work on a real A1200.

Still the same reply: can't duplicate (and why A1200 config?)

Most audio players have stupid cpu delay loops, resulting in no audio (or only random high frequency samples playing) Usually (not always..) works fine on real accelerated Amigas if player routine is located in chip ram.

I guess I have to repeat yet again: 68020+ modes are fastest possible, not compatible.

Leander works fine for me, graphically, with 1.4.3 and the basic A500 quickstart config (crackling sound though, but this has always been the case with Leander). Not tried 1.4.4 yet.

I remember that on my real A1200, I had to use a kickstart 1.3 boot disk to get Leander to work.

Leander doesn't work on A1200. I use whdload with quickstart config A1230 under winuae.

Leander has sound and GFX bugs also on my girlfriend machine. it works on plain A500 config, but i'd like to use leander with whdload (loads faster )

I can confirm the sound bug in 4 channel mode. almost like the channels a way over applified and the sound tunes to crap. The floppy drive sound also doesnt work in 4 channel mode. just a constant irritating sound.

This is second similar report (previous had sp2 but without any newer updates) Probably something to do with beta compiler and/or startup code but it does work fine on fully updated XPSP2 (and rebooting "always" means hardware or driver bug)

Update or wait. At least as long as someone with fully updated xpsp2 has same problem

Final releases will be compiled with MSVS 2005 until MSVS 2008 is out (Q1 2008?) Note that apparently MSVS 2008 compiled programs do not run on Windows 9x/ME anymore. (Warning: 9x/ME compatibility complaints will be either moved or deleted from this thread)

Your bug report is too buggy. Normally I would delete this but this is your first post.

4-channel mode only? (check above post). All modes? What does "buggy" mean? etc..

Talking about 9x/ME compatibility, I tried use it in 9x/ME compatibility on my windows.. and winuae start. but.. it ok when I use it with A500 configs, when using A1200 configs, I just get black screen and nothing else happens.. I emulator still running.. I can get the menu using F12.. I hope this information helps you.
