Civilization AGA: Stalling at AI turn
Hi all,
Has anyone ever come across an issue with Civilization AGA version stalling when the AI is taking it's turn? It's happened in two separate games now. When continuing the game after the victories have been completed, it will generally occur when I reach around 2600 AD - 2700 AD. By that time there will usually only be a couple of Civs left, with Russia being one of them. The game usually stalls when the AI turn indicator (in the bottom left hand corner) is white (Russia's colour). The game is not actually frozen as I can still move the mouse pointer and there are still water animations. I have the retail version and have tried both a hard drive and WHDLoad installation. Same deal. I happen to have saved the game at 2673 AD and, without fail, it stalls every time I complete my turn. Also tried IPF's of the game to eliminate any possibility there were issues with my disks. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Yes I recall this happening to me once while emulating Civ AGA. I couldn't be sure what the issue was but I remember the AI turn indicator being white and the mouse pointer still moving. I wasn't quite so far into the game though maybe 1500 AD perhaps.

I think this has happened to me on a few random occasions - possibly in the PC CivNet version as well. Seems like a regular ol’ bug.

Had the same issue on TheA500 Mini with AGA CD WHDload. Roughly around 1500AD too.

It seems the issue may be related to too many AI units.
The problem: I had saved the game at 2674 A.D., re-loaded it, made my moves, ended my turn and without fail would freeze each time on the civs turns. There are 2 civs left, Russia and France. The "solution": Download Civedit from Aminet. Edited the save file so that I could take control of France. Loaded the edited save file in-game. Took control of France, disbanded some of it's units, then ended the turn and let everything play out. Saved the game again next turn. Then re-edited the new save file so that I was back in control of my own civilization. Everything seems to be back to normal. Could this kind of thing be fixed in a new WHDLoad Civilization AGA slave? Last edited by sean_sk; 17 April 2023 at 01:15. |
