@_TheCrow

this will only configure as a Hard disk, and not as fast ram i am afraid.

you need a card that is SRAM, and these come in primarly 2 flavours (2MB and 4MB respectively) There are larger SRAM modules, but these wont work with you Amiga

unfortunately 2MB PCMCIA SRAM card are becomming expensive and 4MB one are some what rare so for the price of these it would only be a little bit more to actualy buy a memory board for your amiga. wich will drastically improve performance, to give you an idea, Fast memory configured through the PCMCIA is arround 220ns speed where as on a memory or accelreator it is arround 60ns (the lower the better!)

Personally To really add fast ram I would consider buying a Memory adapter or an Accellerator for your 1200, Then you could use the PCMCIA port in conjunction with a Compact flash or SD device and take it to and fro from your PC

you should be able to get a memory card for your amiga for arround £40

These come up from time to time on ebay but if you save up a bit you can get something like this for arround £80 - 100 (depending on how crazy ebay gets)

hope it helps.

Zetro what do you mean by memory adapter? Do you mean I can connect other types of memory cards to use as fastram?

He means a Trap-Door Memory card such as the DKB1202 or the Amitek Hawk etc.

You mentioned DRAM before, did you ever find some compatible ones?

Alas not on ebay,

as 99.99% DRAM uses 5volts not the 3.5 volt standard of SRAM cards.

thats not to say a converter could not be built cheaply, its just getting the specifications of the toshiba type 3 pcmcia hybrid port. ..... next to bloody impossible.. i have even email and phone contacted toshiba.

Your offer sounds interesting, I will hopefully get my CF card today and install everything. Then see how things run.

I read that pcmcia ram slows everything down though? How does it affect your A600 with games etc?

PCMCIA ram will slow down an 020 equipped Amiga, i.e. an A1200 but less that 10% on an A600 (68000 cpu) however it will drastically improve the speed by around 30%

so on an A600 its worth having the pcmcia sram card, on an a1200 its better to go with trapdoor memory.

i bought one of the hybid cards with the staggered pins too

must remember that the pcmcia sram cards are 16 bit...and therefore a lot slower than accelerator ram as thats 32 bit.

saying that..i would like one for my a600

Referring back to the screen flickering when using PCMCIA RAM.

This seems to be a widespread issue..
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...screen+flicker

Has anyone succeeded in banishing it?
