Amiga, CD32, and What to buy/do.

Full on Edit:

I imagine that with the hardware I have, I should be able to display whatever an NTSC CD32 will put out. An external scan doubler that converts NTSC or PAL to RGB to a High Resoultion Multisystem CRT projector that takes RGB. So...I guess I don't have to be too worried about that.

The real issue I'm concerned about is total software incompatibility, that is software that won't work in any way whatsoever on an NTSC system. I've seen people mention that "quite a bit" of the software that doesn't work....but well...I guess I'd appreciate it if someone could elaborate. I'll do a little bit more searching on the forum...and now that I've realized that CD32 pretty much is an A1200, I'll hopefully be able to find slighlty more info on the subject.

Ah, and though it was in my original version of the thread, I don't want to modify my system. I just like to have my consoles stock.

Finally, those CD32s from China. I saw one post saying that somebody got a knicked up one. Does anyone have any other experiences purchasing one of those?

Edit: As some of you might have noticed...my original post was ridiculously long winded. To spare you all, I rewrote it. I wish I could say that I was drunk when I posted that...but the fact that I'm not exactly rich means that when I am able to get something for myself I overthink it a ton. Once again, real sorry.

hi & welcome,

well, havnt read the whole, but what i got might get explained here (a bit at least):
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=17615

Quote:
The old monitor is not exactly the solution, because you would also have to MODIFY the CD32 for outputting the needed RGB signals for you not to worry about it being PAL, NTSC or whatever.

It's an easy mod, granted, since the CD32 is perfectly wired for RGB already, but you have to mod it anyway.
i'll try to find the mentioned threat.

Edit:
- Cd32 FAQ: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/amiga/CD32-FAQ/part2/
near the end, there is a schematics about the rgb mod.

- related to ntsc/pal (a1200 in this case)
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39646

- A1200 ntsc to pal
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ht=colour+mode

hope this helps a bit until someone more experienced will find a better answer

AND through compilations I can play all of the old disk games
My experience is that some will need a mouse, a few need a keyboard.

Mice, that is easy (and cheep).

That AUX port on the left hand side takes an Amiga 4000 keyboard natural, and earlier big box Amiga keyboards with a AT din to PS/2 converter. I'm not sure if they can handle a PC keyboard without a converter of some form, the FAQ should help with that.

First post edited down. Now with less crazyness.

Note: I seem to be leaning towards just biting the bullet, getting an NTSC system.

I own an NTSC CD32 (purchased on eBay).

It works great & since you are in NTSCland, I'd strongly suggest you purchase one!

Most games run on it, in fact the only ones I've had NOT work are some compilations, all single game discs work fine.

What inputs does your scan doubler have? Svid? If it'll take PAL, why not just get a PAL system? Then you just need an inexpensive step-up transformer.

Everything I have read suggests that only a small handful of CD32 titles are NTSC unfriendly. Get yourself a mouse and the both buttons boot menu is your friend. I can't comment on compilation disks, it would just be a case of suck it and see... but with an 888 game disk, it's not that big a blow if the odd game has issues?

If you get the new Indivision CD32 you can play all PAL and NTSC games on any LCD or VGA display!
