Boot with no startup, then type;

set echo on
execute s:startup-sequence

It will let you see what its loading before crashing.

Try commenting out "fblit"
Put a ; infront of it via "ed s:startup-sequence".
In the sequence, you will find the fblit line.

Then do the same, echo on etc etc.

When it says "intuition is trying to reset blah blah", what happens when you press "cancel". Whats the last thing it loads before getting to that requester?

Try commenting that out then, .

It sounds like something in the startup-sequence, doesnt like your card.

yes i understand where your coming from but at this rate ill be down to a barebones wb , for instance as i understand it fblit takes away some operations from the blitter chip and uses the cpu to allow use of fast ram which would be quite useful. By commenting out certain bits of the startup seq i am concerned that i am just setting false flags just to get it too boot which is not what i intended
Hope this make sense and really appreciate your input

Yeh I understand, but lets get it booted first, .
You will then know exactly what things dont work, and look into it from there.

Should have asked first, what Amiga are you running this on?

Does your 030 card work if you boot from a Workbench floppy?

Its very strange indeed as I used to have the very same card and ran Classic Workbench without issues.

As you're using >4gb did you patch the SCSI.Device? I wonder if this causes some issue with the M-Tec, do you have a CF-IDE or smaller HDD you can try?

All the best,

Steve.

didnt patch the scsi.device. i have other drives knocking about and also a cf card . I think i will go back too square one using a new drive/cf card and see how things go. cyberdruid has translated the manual back into english (it was in german) so i can check the jumper settings and suchlike.
Fitzsteve can you remember what settings you were using on card ie: the card at the moment is set to use async instead of 28/14mhz is this correct ?
Anyways thanks for the help so far both of you much appreciated i will keep you updated on any progress, if not keep an eye on the marketplace

Hey terexuk, no probs at all!

Firstly if you're using a HDD >4gb you need to patch the SCSI.Device as the default A1200 SCSI.Device only supports up to 4gb, this could be causing an issue. However if you have a smaller drive (or better still a CF for ease of setup) give that a try

I don't remember what the settings were for on my old M-Tec, but I took this picture, and these are the settings I used:
