A4000T IDE read-only with HD

Hello,

Wonder if someone has seen this before.

When partitioning the drive with HDToolBox and writing the partition table it writes with no complaints but when I re-read it, nothing has been written.

It's as though the device is read-only, and I've tried with three different hard disks now and all are the same, which points towards the A4000T motherboard.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

I've heard of it several times, mostly related to an A1200 or A600 but not an A4000. It's usually caused by an incompatible drive, a bad cable or bad connection or a weak power supply.

On OS 3.1 and below, if you type something into an input field, you have to confirm it with the Return or Tab key. Otherwise the input is not recognised. OS 3.5 and above does not have this problem.

I do hit the save button to confirm the changes, so I know it's attempting to write to the drive.

I'll try a different cable though.

@alan

What Thomas is saying is that once you have actually entered the data in the box press the "Return" key for the new data to be accepted, of course save the changes too.

I understand. I can do what I'm doing to a SCSI disk just fine and it works, just not IDE.
