Which PSU brick??

I am told an A500 power supply is stronger for use with an A1200. True/false?

Yes that's true, go for the A500 PSU.

You need a HEAVY one for the best rated Power Output.

The "Feather Brick" switched mode supply that shipped with the A500+ and A600 is rated a little lower I think

Apparently if you use an A1200 with its standard PSU, as soon as you add a hard drive and an accelerator (maybe not even that) it really struggles to handle it all. I think that PSU was one of good old Commodore's many cost-cutting techniques.

I use the A500 PSU on my A1200 with 1,4GB 2,5" HD and with Blizzard 1230IV with 16MB. Probably I'm lucky but I've no problem. In the 90's Goliath was the name of a non-Commodore PSU for Amiga with more power.

I used to use an A500 PSU with my 1200 when I had an 030 and never had any problems, but I started using a Goliath when I got my 040 just to be on the safe side.

Much cheaper alternative to Goliath: take a standard PC PSU and adapt the Amiga power plug to it. You might need a pull-up resistor according to the PSU you use or it might simply refuse to start. Not difficult at all and you spare a lot of money...

modding an ATX PSU

I just modding things so heres a VERY simple diagram that will work and you wont need any pull-up resistor

heres a simple easy work diagram

it should be easy to extrapolate for use with this daigram

I used this to modify a microATX PSU to fit inside the A1200 Brick PSU plastics and it works awsomely!!!!

I hope it helps
