Moonstone CD32

No longer in beta - http://unofficial-cd32-ports.blogspo...moonstone.html

(Cover by Steve)

Firstly - big thanks to JOTD for producing an updated CD32Load to make this possible!

A test ISO of Moonstone has been uploaded to the Zone (using 1.4 of Wepl's slave). Controls are:

Red: Action
Blue: Inventory
Play: Skip rest of turn (heal)

Reverse: Option 1
Forward: Option 2
Green: Option 3
Yellow: Option 4

(Options are only needed when your knight is standing on multiple locations at once, such as when you're overlapping an enemy knight and a town. I'm not sure if the ability to select an option above 4 is needed at all but seems extremely unlikely in regular play)

I haven't played it extensively and I haven't tried burning the disc yet to try on a real CD32. Any reported issues would be appreciated.

I played it start to finish, including slaying the dragon, the guardian, and taking the moonstone to Stonehenge. All 100% perfect. I may include a control screen in the final release but other than that there shouldn't be any need to update this beta.

Out of beta. There's no real difference between the release version and the beta that was formerly in the zone, except now there's a control screen.

To be clear: Steve did the cover several years ago, I did the control screen recently (from a template by Steve). The source art on the cover I'm not so sure about, could likely be from DeviantArt etc. I'll make a note to credit the original artist if I see it around.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd say hello and introduce myself as the original Artist of the Moonstone cover art. Stumbled across the forum and thought I'd clear it up for you

It was a fun fan art piece I put on my DeviantArt and Behance page a long time ago (original image here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/1347...Knight-fan-art

Im not fussed about being officially credited or what have you, I just wanted to say hello and wish everyone a cracking 2017 really! Glad the piece is getting some use and I look forward to reading more about how the conversion plays (and who knows, maybe even a remake?!)

Cheers!
Joe

thanks for passing by Joe. The "conversion" plays 100% like the original, except that controls are redirected to CD32 joypad (no keyboard on the console, that's one of the challenges when adapting games)

Cheers all, good to be here! A project page credit would make me smile and I would humbly accept a mention if you have the time to chuck it on there @earok

@jotd The CD32 controller was one of my favourites of all the old school consoles and the gameplay definitely suits a controller so happy days!

I'll be grabbing this for the weekend, a friend who is addicted to amiga is coming over this weekend and I have decided THIS will be the game of choice amongst other games, your release is very much appreciated and I WILL certainly be cutting heads off for hours on my recent successful DIY project the RGB modded cd32 :O fuck yeah!

Having a trouble getting this to work on my cd32, keeps restarting after the mindscape logo and some audio... back to the controls screen using pauls psx adapters, i press Circle on the psx pad and I see it reboot , any guesses? Thanks.

Edit: Issue I) Actually Circle button always restarts, HOWEVER if i'm patient enough I can get into the game, and 2 controls works fine (YAY) so we can fight, but the circle button is a pain in the butt and restarts it, so the question is does the game have this as a feature? and if so is there a way you can patch it out... otherwise it's pauls adapter hmm will have to learn to move buttons or something. Edit: Resolved by moving Circle to L2.

Edit: Issue II) Second issue. I can't choose 1) village or 2) lair options in the game with control pad, assume I need a KB at this point? Thanks. I read your notes but no button worked, will try again.

Edit: Issue III) Inventory, can't for the life of me get it open... I have a feeling all these issues are related to the PSX adapter? but if you have one of them around let me know if there's a workaround, thanks.

Honestly, yeah it does sound like the adapater.. I think I had similar issues when attempting to play 2 player with one player on a PSX joystick. Best to stick with native CD32 pad for this release.
