The 3D engine is a LOT more powerful than what was seen in the demo. We just didn't have time to produce a better scene for it in the end (also it only uses 2 out of the 3 possible colours for the 2 bitplane screen). Still.. we will improve and re-use this engine in the next demo

How does that work? Is the picture cut from the top and bottom, or is the screen stretched horizontally when viewing?
As far as I've understood it, the native display has empty bars top and bottom (so the code renders less than 256 lines), and then it's zoomed by the video hardware used at the party.

I downloaded it almost by accident before I had read any hype, loaded it up on my real A500 and was kinda blown away. Obviously it’s really technically impressive, but the thing that struck me most was that the style made it seem even more impressive. Hard to explain, but something like 2018 “style” on 1988 hardware makes is just so tasty.

Well done all involved!

Would love to hear some technical explanations about that one..

Is this copper chunky with realtime rendered bitplanes on top?

It is just a 3D scene in unity, with a script that clips polygons against each other, so that it can be linedrawn and then finally filled in one blitter operation. The data is still quite bloaty for it, so we will probably try and pack the co-ordinate data a bit better in future.

Actually I really like the idea of using an 8x8 copper chunky to fill 8x8 squares, and then scan convert the edges of polyons into bitplane overlays.. that could work really nicely for sure (almost a similar technique to how Titan did the 3D in Overdrive 2 on the Megadrive). Definitely worth looking into!

That actually does sound like an excellent idea!

The Revision compo organisers specified a screen resolution for anyone that wanted to have their demo displayed in full widescreen on the main screen (I think it was 320x180)

Good to know thanks Dan, obviously want to include it on the updated Demo Collection CD32 disc for more people to view on real Amiga's, hope you can nudge them to make it happen

Despite the possible incompatibility issues I find it impressive that you targeted A500 and managed to create a genuinely good demo much more creative than anything seen on Amiga for ages.

Looking forward to seeing what's coming next.

I did a search and it didn't come up so I made a new thread. I was too busy being an organizer for the gamecompo to post while it was on :3

thanks for the merge!

HDD version should be out early next week, or next weekend at the latest.

We've been fixing some AGA & 68020+ glitches and crashes, so hopefully right now it will work on all Amiga configurations. Just waiting Leonard to do the HDD stuff, then the "final" version can be released

That's great! I think The Fall's 3d part is already much more impressive than Overdrive's , I can't wait to see what you guys will do next with the improved version!
