Login Problem
For some time now, I was getting logged out after about a half an hour or so of reading messages (even while in the middle of reading new messages). Tonight, I have been logged out about six times in two hours. Has something changed that automatically logs you out after 15 minutes or something? This was never the case before. I used to could refresh the new messages page, read the new messages, go do things, come back and hour later, refresh, read messages, etc. never getting logged out. Now it seems everytime I refresh the New Messages page, I am out.

and I didn't change this engine level, no EAB's recent modification here.
note: Opera 5.12 final seems to work better for a lot of things |

Jeez, this still drives me crazy. Is there a line of code that logs one out after 15 minutes? There isn't a day that goes by that I am not reading new messages and go to reply and have it tell me I am not logged in. This happens for me on three different machines. And being able to reply takes me almost 15 minutes because I have to convince the system somehow that I have logged in! I go back to the main page, hit refresh, find out I am not logged in any more, re-log in, then refresh till my eye-sockets get sore until it finally acknowledges I am logged in. It drives me mad. I open the thread in a new window and still no joy. I end up having to open a new window, go to the main page, sometimes have to re-login AGAIN, then open that thread in that exact same window, THEN it will usually allow me to reply.
Is it possible for that 15 minute logout to occur only if the user is not actively reading or is clearly there at the keyboard and on the site, rather than idleing? |

Mate, I idle all the time. I mainly access EAB with crappy IE on a crappy PC, and I never have any problems. Active, idle for an hour, whatever - still logged in.

my server only know that you are alive when you are sending him informations. > solution: keep the who is online open in another windows, so you won't be deconnected. ho, and be sure to use cookies to browse the board, to have less logout problem. |

Actually, Twistin Ghost isnt a Barkin Ghost, i have found on several occasions using IE6 on a PC, that I am logged out even though i was originally logged in.
I have yet to come up with an explanation or any similair circumstances linking these occurences. |

Well, if it was an Opera problem, how come I can stay logged onto Amazon.com for weeks on end?

I've got no problems here with IE5.5SP1 Twist, but I've had a similar problem at 1 or 2 other forums. It had been suggested that Zonealarm might've been causing the issue,do you have it?

Everything gets blamed on Zone Alarm! I have it at home, but not here at work. I have the same logout issue here and at home (in fact, I just got logged out in the middle of reading and trying to reply here again about 15 minutes ago...arrggghhhh!!!!)
If I could just read messages for only 15 minutes at a time, but presently, it takes me at least two hours! |

No cookies for you!
What if all were not as it seems, don't quote me on this, but I think Opera and I'm willing to bet a lot of browsers use Internet Explorer APIs to process and display web pages, in other words you could very well entitle Opera - a frontend for IE.
This may seem strange, you could try altering your IE security settings to permit stored cookies. |

But Opera has its own (more advanced) way of dealing with cookies...it allows a lot more flexibility than IE does with cookies, so I tend to doubt this.

Yes, EAB *does* need cookies to work.
So Twist, in Opera, this setting, though quite restricted, makes Opera work with EAB: Preferences->Privacy [x] Enable cookies Accept only cookies from selected servers Don't accept third-party cookies [ ] Throw away new cookies on exit These were the *general* settings. Now the special ones... Edit server filters... Accept from server... add eab.abime.net here. Works fine. |

Actually, that's exactly how I have mine set. Already have eab.abime.net added in there.
