idea about WinUAE-based tool

I was wondering, would it be possible/not too much work to write a tool for windows which would be a cut-down version of winuae just to explore (read/write) amiga formatted disks attached to the system?

I was thinking the same, Norton Commander style WinUAE based tool to copy files from PC to Amiga formatted CF card etc. That would be handy.

Have you considered Total Commander with the AmigaDX Packer Plugin?

Total Commander is an Norton Commander-like tool and it's shareware.

There's already tools to be able to read and write both adf and hdf files through Windows as though theyre just "normal" Windows directories.
Is this what you mean?

Total Commander + Amiga DX is all great, but I meant real physical disks connected to the system. Maybe the AmigaDX plugin could be improved to do that as well, I don't know, that'd be equally good I suppose.

You'd need a Catweasel or Kryoflux for that anyway.

Why? There are plenty cheap ide->usb adapters around. What I meant by "disks" is basically "hard disks", I should be clearer I guess.

I think only way to make this generic enough would be to include WinUAE built-in mini Samba server which would make all Amiga-side drive available as shared folders

Unfortunately Samba is huge and not really meant for this kind of hack..

ah! I see! I suppose a fs plugin for total commander would be better suited for the task then! Only thing left is to find someone able to do that

You can run AExplorer inside WinUAE and access it with Amiga Explorer on Windows side.

Someone just needs to make an IFS for Windows that supports at least DOS\0 through DOS\4. I would guess that support for SFS or PFS might be handy as well.

This would also theoretically allow Amiga floppies (both OFS and FFS) to be accessed with a proper controller, but I don't even know if Catweasel or Kryoflux can be used in such a manner. Certainly Kryoflux would be overkill for merely accessing standard floppies.

@LocalH

Yeah, that'd be the most elegant solution I believe.
