MSX / MSX 2 - Thread

The MSX does get some seriously nice homebrew games, one day I hope to own one and play it myself!

MSXdev'17 - The MSX Competition results are in and the winners are...

Quote:
Once again it's time to give a shout out to the MSXdev’17 competition as we've recently found out, not only are there a lot of awesome games to play, but the competition is officially over with winners announced! Yes indeed after all this time featuring every game in the competition, we are pleased to say that XSpelunker won in the MSX Classic category, ΧΙ∧∃Χ (Zevimodoki) in the MSX Freestyle category, and XSpelunker and Draconic Throne share the MSX Community Prize!

Maybe someone can help me.
I have MSX 1 Yamaha Music computer CX5M. I also have 1MB RAM cart.
I would like to somehow run this ROM "YRM-502 FM Voicing Program II" on it.
I tried few methods loading it into the MSX but w/o any success.

Thanks.

And now I have an HX-10 again, snagged a decent one off eBay, came today with couple of Konami carts too. Took a while to figure out how to get my fancy Samsung 4K TV into manual tune mode and then to get rid of the snow noise but all is well now, picture isn't the best even after trying to fine tune but it could be the cable itself as it looks to be the original with the computer, may order a better quality one see if that cleans things up unless someone has a better idea ?

Use the Video port instead of rf? It provides composite video, which is far better (not the best but better than the rf). I suppose every tv/projector has an input for composite video (the yellow rca connector). Any rca (male to male) cable will do.

Sorry, if I misunderstood somehow

Modern TV LCD/LED don't support Analogue RF input anymore.

Toshiba MSX's have an internal power supply which heats a lot.

I got my modern 4K TV tuned in via the RF connector @DanyPPC so some tv's do still support it. @emuola My Samsung doesn't have any RCA connectors unfort so was wondering what cables I could buy or extra hardware I could get to give me a better picture.

um most TV's support RF due to cable boxes or for people to pick up local broadcast
cable tv still routes SDTV through cable so you can still use a CRT

It should have a "break out cable" like this. My Samsung 4k has

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MWB...w?usp=drivesdk

It's the green one with the yellow "ring".

My Samsung 4K TV uses a separate connector box which doesn't have the rca connector, my older Samsung had all that, will have to look to see if it has some other breakout cables which connect elsewhere.

Cool, an MSX thread.

I still have my first ever computer, my Toshiba HX-10. Fantastic little machine but needs a bit of love. Some keys don't work and most tapes won't load but I don't know if its the tapes or the player.

I was looking at MSX flash carts (everdrive) but they are kinda expensive and it seems a minefield as how to use them. Anyone have any experience with them?

I've also been watching the Japan Auctions and am seriously considering an MSX2+ as it looks like a fantastic machine. I've never used any of these Japan auction proxy sites before, anyone have any experience?

Have you checked the cable from the MSX to the tape recorder to make sure all the cables are in good shape etc, you can pick up a replacement for £9 odd from eBay.

Hi, I also have a Toshiba HX-10 which had some of the keys not working. To fix the keys, you need to desolder them from its circuit board and then clean the cups in the key and pads on the circuit board with a little alcohol on a cotton bud as muck etc get in there and stops the key from making a good contact.

A proper vacuum de-soldering iron is the easiest tool to use as its quicker and less likely to overheat the plastic of the keys due to taking too long on each solder joint.

If you don't have one then solder braid or a vacuum pen is the other option but always allow time for the solder joint to cool down before re-attempting to get the connection clear to avoid track/pad damage or to the key itself.

The above is a bit over the top and if you are handy with a soldering iron, then this shouldn't be too awkward and well worth the effort
