ASIMCDFS Installation problem - AMIGA 1200

Hi all, I've an Amiga 1200, kickstart 3.1, CF Card 8GB, Classic WB ADVSP and an IDE cdrom drive setup. Since I'm not happy at all with IDEFIX97 I'm trying to install ASIMCDFS 3.10 from (emulated) floppy disk drive. Each time I try to install it i get stuck in the middle with these messages..."Please insert your boot disk..." (???) and then when i click "Proceed": Sorry... an Error Has Occurred! STARTUP : Problem with file "startup-sequence".

What am I supposed to do to make it work?
Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm quite a total beginner

Thanks.
A.

Choose 'Intermediate user', tick 'pretend to install' and also tick 'log_file'?

If it fails or completes, then you will get a log file which you can choose to narrow the problem down.
Apparently choosing anything but 'Novice user' causes problems.

I had a quick try in WinUAE using 'Intermediate user' and I had an error 'Insert ASIMCDFS:' I opened a shell and typed Assign ASIMCDFS: SYS:ASIMCDFS and it continued to completion.

It should be in RAM:
Another point to make is that you need to create the SYS:AsimCDFS drawer yourself or the installer will fail with an assign error.

EDIT: Also create the asimcdfs_buffer drawer yourself (I used Ram:AsimCDFS_Buffer)
and when the 'insert AsimCDFS:' requester appears, open a shell and type> Assign AsimCDFS: AsimCDFS_v3_Install:

I hope this helps.

This is the log file I get using your answers.

Did you create the AsimCDFS & AsimCDFD_buffer dirs yourself? (I used SYS: & RAM:)
Did you get the requester asking for AsimCDFS: ?

Try deleting any CD0 dosdrivers before starting the Install.
Is your User-Startup write enabled?
Are your dosdrivers deletable?

Yes it seems

It's like the Startup-Sequence is not writable since I keep obtaining the same error... :/

It writes to S:User-Startup.
If it helps then I have copied all the files from the Install to an adf. Copy the files over to your HD.

Thanks for your help Arnie. Where should I exactly copy AsimCDFS and AsimCDFS_Buffer folders? Should I add anything anywhere in user-startup? I don't know if I'll be able to solve this... The funny thing is I obtain the same errors both on real Amiga and WinUAE

From your posts I assumed you have both the AsimCDFS folders on your SYS: and System: partitions (are they both on the same partition, ie, is System: the volume name for the SYS: partition ?)
If you already have a S:User-Startup then rename it. Copy the rest of the folders to SYS:

EDIT: There are 2 dirs hidden (S & L) because they have no .info file. Use show all files to see them.

Easiedt way is to insert the adf, open a shell/cli and type> Copy DF0: Sys: all clone

Hi again Arnie, I tried every way possible, but no, in the end even if the real Amiga finds the drive at boot, the system can't read the cd. I managed somehow to make it work on WinUAE...

Did you get the CD to mount on the A1200?
After typing Info in a shell/CLI was it in the mounted list?
Is the actual CD known working?

Not to take anything away from your achievement in mounting it in WinUAE but, you don't even need a DosDriver to get CD0: working in WinUAE. You just need to tick 'uaescsi' in expansions and/or 'CD automount' in CD & harddrives.

There are other CD mounting programs available to try.

If you want to carry on and get this working in your A1200 then let me know, otherwise I'll leave you to it and wont pester you any more
