Details of new Entry Level Computer!

Issaquah, Wash and Fonthill, ON Canada – April 29, 2007 – ACK Controls and Amiga, Inc. are pleased to announce the base hardware design that will address the needs of the Amiga market as well offering expansion into other markets.

“The first product release is designed for flexibility and meeting the needs of the Amiga user, as well as offer a design that takes advantage of available hardware”, said Adam Kowalczyk President of ACK Systems

This new system will be offered at a suggested retail price of $ 489.00 and be a complete offering excluding monitor in a finished design that will provide customers with everything they need to get started.

* Flex-ATX form factor motherboard based on the Freescale MPC8349E SoC. (400MHz to 667MHz depending on requirements and price target)
* 1 (one) DDR2 DIMM slot expandable to 1GB using unregistered DIMMs.
* 1 (one) 66MHz PCI slot for use with readily available graphics cards.
* 2 (two) 33MHz PCI slots for additional expansion.
* 2 (two) 10/100/1Gb Ethernet Ports.
* 4 (four) Hi Speed USB ports.
* 2 (two) serial ports.
* 4 (four) SATA ports provided by a Silicon Image Sil3114 controller.
* Onboard sound provided by a C-Media CMI8738.
* Socketed EEPROM for U-Boot firmware.
* Atmel ATC2408A serial EEPROM (1 kb of non-volatile storage)
* Dallas DS1339 RTC with battery holder.
* Standard ATX power supply connector.

They aren't exactly Asus or intel etc, small potential userbase + low production run = higher prices.

I know we're talking about the current Amiga market and the prize tag on this thingie is not at all bad when compared to amounts people are ready to spend on PowerUp PPC cards. But it just seems a bit silly that according to Amiga Inc. similiar machines are to secure a leading role in today's computer industry.

Yes, its wonderful, but for those who are tired and jaded of Windows, perhaps you may just want to concede that maybe, just maybe, someone else may want to run the latest version of the Amiga OS?

I mean, I appreciate that some people here only ever touched an Amiga for the games, but if you look under the bonnet as they say, and use the OS, you'll find its a neat little OS which doesn't give you half the headache Windows does.

Its for those who care, those who don't will continue to run Amiga Emulators safe in ignorant bliss. It your choice and I salute you on that, go ahead, just don't knock someone else's choice.

a case (no pun intended) of way to little..... way too late.... infact not at all.... how can you declare that "we have a product.... in a year from now!" please.... its so sad its not even funny....

if only half of this time was used in making an x86 compatible system (instead of ppc *pointless propriety chipset* LOL) we could of all had an option to run an amiga OS by now... and they would of made money instead of lawsuits! and hot air with vapourware companys!

bah.... amiga.inc : all you ever wanted, never to be delivered!

what sickens me is that i can buy a laptop with more power / games and productivity and still get change compaired to that some what overpriced ppc junk... i mean.... 500 bucks for a PCI graphics solution!?!?!??! get the f*ck outa here fucktards!!!!!

They could be PCI-X? This is a 66MHz 64-bit PCI slot, and there are a lot of embedded chips for this standard.

I have to say that it is absolutely going to suck ass. My NAS drive has better specs!

Which OS' will it be running? Classic AmigaOS' up to 3.9? 4.0?
Will it emulate classic hardware (all the custom chips incl. AGA)?
Will it run classic and more recent applications and games?

I guess the answers are... NO-NO-NO, but whoever has some details about that please enlighten me!
