WHDLoad is awesome, but for games that have a native HD install and should work on all amigas its useless imho.
It isn't usless for games with native installs. Since you can add things like pad controls, highscore saver, trainer, game fixes, remove manual protections, language selection, make it more compatible on different chipsets/cpus etc.

Exactly. A WHDLoad game sometimes offers better features, and even fixes (i.e. better than the original!). E.g. IK+ is much better in WHDLoad version after all StingRay fixes in NTSC mode and with the 2nd shield sprite fix in the bonus stage...
That HD patch for Dark Seed is very good anyway.

There seems to be an incompatibility between the game and Kickstart 3.1. With Kickstart 3.0 or earlier it's fine; the interlaced display appears correct.

But with Kickstart 3.1, instead of odd/even lines being shown in alternate frames, every frame shows the odd lines (or every frame shows the even lines, not sure which). That reminded me of a similar interfering-with-interlace issue with the Corruption loading/title screen and Kickstart 3.1.

Yeah, i know but what do you want to add in Darkseed ? ( Its Aga Fixed, Exits, Copy Protection removed , 60hz centered, Music Speed adjusted ..... )
For example; Lionheart has 2 button controll, Cheats, Exits back to WB and should run on all Amigas.
WHDLoad needs more ram, can crash and precaching files can take some Time. I dare you, try Darkseed & Lionheart and tell me Whdload is faster/better XD

Anyway just saying; but StingRay, CFOU,Wepl & Co are already pretty busy

Exactly, the additional RAM is a problem but I get why this is required.

If there's a native install I will almost always use this as opposed to the WHDLoad version unless there are killer extras

This is exactly what WHDLoad patches normally do. Ross did it for disk and native hd version in this case. All files are modified. WHDLoad doesn't modify the original files, it applies and run the patch (the slave file) in real time.

Coincidence. I was just playing this game on my A500+, using my 1084s monitor and noticed the flickering on the text and on the map. I was wondering if this is normal...

Try Lionheart on a very fast Amiga with gfx card WB and you'll see the std executable will cause gfx glitches in game... fixed by WHDLoad

I said "should" work on all Amigas, nothing in Life is 100%
The Gfx Card is not a problem because it runs on the Amiga Gfx Chip anyways.
I had a Motorola 060 and a CyberGrafx 64 back in the days, never had a problem with Lionheart.

Anyway, i am glad it works for you, because its awesome ! I love Lionheart

I don't use WHDLoad for Ambermoon for example... so I agree sometimes WHDLoad is not necessary but some others is very useful to extend compatibility for all HW configsā€¦
Many games, apparently starting and quitting to WB flawlessly, can cause memory corruption, cause access faults, have problems with VBR moved to fastmem, with mouse pointer in hi-res, leave the chipset registers in a bad status etc.
With WHDLoad you solve all these issues and you can be sure your OS will be stable and safe after exiting those games.
