Hmmm... I can't assure this but... there are already two version of this game in tosec...
The first have a loading picture with the words "Rainbow Project" (as the arcade original, instead the other version (the official Graftgold version) have the loading picture as you can slighty see from the article above... I don't know if this version have the 2nd player coloured different... |

Its somewhat ironic about the "time factor" issues put forward by Andy Braybrook given the time delays in the game's release,(with the Microprose buyout of Telecomsoft was it, & Ocean's subsequent acquiring of the licence & then buying the Graftgold coded release). In some respects, its a shame that the extra time couldn't have been devoted to including the extra levels & therefore having the "full" game, though I doubt Ocean could've been bothered waiting for coding the "hidden" levels.

Well, we had already discussed that ages ago in the German forum and came to the conclusion that the version with the "Rainbow Project" picture is definitely a pre-release / beta version. |

Maybe Rainbow Islands with the full number of levels could be a future CARE project? ;-)

I don't think the one with rainbow project is beta at all, I'm sure my original copy has rainbow project on it... I could be completely wrong however, it's just that I've only ever played my copy and the arcade version so this beta adf would have never crossed my path.

I have two copies of Raibow Island that come up "Rainbow Project" at the beginning. I think the IPF's do this too, not sure about the budget version though.

I think the IPF does. I think I dumped it! I know it was one of the first games I dumped back in the day.

Hmmm ... so then ... you seem to be right.
[BTW: Note that the phrase "we came to the conclusion" doesn't say anything about being wrong or right, it merely says something about the majority of users stating this ] Well, I wasn't just inventing this for fun, it was a result of a HUGE discussion about this game in the old german forum (now archived for reading only). |

Just out of interest, did anyone else have the version that asked you to enter the password 'FACILITIES' in order to run the game?
What was that about? |

Steve turner has said in a french interview that adding the missing islands would have been meaning to add a 3rd disk on atari ST.....and maybe a second disk on amiga.

There are versions which do not have this "Rainbow Project" screen, but this one instead. I'm not sure whether these or the "Rainbow Project" ones are pre-release versions.

The version I had required that you type in 'FACILITIES' to boot it. It then displayed the 'Rainbow Project' text.
