Recommend PC Joypad for emulation

i am getting into emulation for other formats, Megadrive, Snes etc etc and i have been using a logitech Joypad, which to be honest doesnt "feel" brilliant... its a dual thumb stick affair and its about 6 months old

i am looking for a good Joypad that is available in the UK

What do you recommend?

I'm Using a Xbox 360 Controller for windows without problems.

If you can find one in the UK then I'd recommend the Sega Saturn USB controller.

I have one of those Saitek PS2-esque ones and find that it works quite nicely for various emulators. Except for N64, it 'feels' correct when I use the buttons.

I use one of those wired Xbox 360 Street Fighter pads on my Mac for MAME.

HMV are doing 1 for £19.99 each or 2 for £29.99.

Very similar to the Saturn pad.

Interact PC Propad 6. Actually it's the same product line, as the Quickjoy Amiga Hyperpad.

Like a SNES Pad with optional Turbo on any button, but without Start/Select.
The 6 is important, meaning 6 different buttons. There is a 4 version, which has Shoulder buttons, but there they are optional alternatives to two regular buttons. Strange.

The D-Pad is very precise.

Propably you need an USB - Gameport Adapter, if your PC is any new... Make sure, it's an active one. Pad and adapter are cheap at Ebay.

What do Speed 1 and Speed 2 buttons do?
Change the speed of autofire?

And have you tried the gamepad using xpadder or joytokey?

If the speed1/2 buttons are recognized by these programs then I guess you can assign them to input the key that is bound to the select/start key in the emulator.

They are supposed to change autofire speed. Actually, I remember only one game, where this made a difference, as one speed setting kind of overfilled the buffer, and resulted in an irregular fire rate. No way, to Joy2Key them.

I end up putting start/select on the keyboard. Most games don't use them, or open just a menu, it's OK.

Cant get a better one than a PS2 Controller. This Adapter works great for connecting to both the PC and PS3.

I use PS2 pad with adapter, a Xbox360 USB pad, or a Speedking Joystick with usb adapter.

Really, there is no "one joypad to rule them all" A PSX-style controller will work well for simple games (NES, C64, Spectrum, Atari, etc) as well as Amiga, SNES and PSX games but won't be very good for use with Genesis/MD games or any more compilcated arcade games (shoulder buttons are no subsitute for a a proper 6-button system) and NOTHING except an adapted N64 or GC controller is very good at all for use with N64 games... Most of the time, I actually like to use the keyboard as my games controller. The only time when I don't is when I need analog control...

A PS3 pad if you've got bluetooth.

A PS1/PS2 pad with USB adaptor otherwise

Mega Drive, Master System, PC-Engine, NES, Neo Geo, Saturn = Sega Saturn USB pad
PSX, PS2 = Logitech Dual Action
Snes, N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube = Logitech or an USB adapter for the real pads.
Mame = Arcadeboard
Amiga, ST or 8-bit Computer = USB adapter and the real Atari Style 9-pin sticks/pads
