What games contain Rob Northen's protect program or source?
Years ago I knew of a game (or perhaps 2) that seemed to have been mastered with some of Rob Northen's tools on it. It was either an early version of the Protect program that encrypted the game, or some source code or a key disk maker or something. It might have been "deleted" off the disk and you had to use an undelete tool to find it. That may be incorrect though!
My initial guess was one of the Bitmap's early games like Speedball or Xenon, but they don't seem to be correct. Does anyone remember? Does anyone recall what it was? |

I'm sure it was a very early game from about 1988 or 1989.
Hook (if we're talking about the Ocean game) has 4 disks, disks 1, 2 and 4 are NDOS, and disk 3 appears empty. Are you talking about a cracked version? Can you zone the disk if you have it please? |

If I remember correctly, you can find some of Rob Northen's stuff on the Xenon 2 disks. Not 100% sure though and I can't check at the moment.

This jogs my memory, I recall finding these on an SPS release while I was compiling a list of games that use manual protection in this thread:

Yeah those are the files. From memory it will always create a key using the same key calculation routine (later on there were about 8 variants) and the serialno program always assumes that calculation.

Ok, found them and uploaded them to the Zone: RNC_Tools.lha
What use are they and how the heck do you use them though? OOPS!! Forgot to say what disk it was, SPS 2793: Joan of Arc Disk 1. All the files are in the root directory of the first disk. Last edited by BarryB; 23 January 2012 at 02:20. Reason: Clarification |

Joke: Do you think Rob Northen and Shawn Southern should get together and create a sequel to North and South - called Northen and Southern...? ...Perhaps not.
