Hard drive not visible in A1200

Ive just bought A1200 on ebay with very small harddrive so I wanted to expand and bought 600MB Quantum Daytona HD but A1200 doesnt see this drive at all. Pins, tape is okey. Drive is spinning but not seen by HDtools at all. Please help. Does it have to be SCSI or IDE?

Many HDDs spin up too slow after power-on so the Amiga doesn't recognise them. Do a reset (Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga) and check if the HDD is still not seen. The only thing you can do against this is to upgrade to Kickstart 3.1. Kick 3.1 waits longer than Kick 3.0.

Another problem which makes the above even worse is that some HDDs spin down during a reset and then spin up too slow again, so that they are not seen by the Amiga at all. In this case you can cut the reset line of the IDE cable. It's the one which is connected to pin 1 on the motherboard. If the reset line is cut, the HDD does not spin down and is seen after a reset.

when installing a new hard drive, it will not be seen until your configure it.

go into hd toolbox >change drive type
in the top box FileName: type RAM:drive definions
then click Read Configuration,
click OK
this brings you back to the partioning screen, click save changes to drive.

reboot with install disk after 10 seconds.
you should now see your new drive.
you can partition and format and then install your wb
