Downloading stuff is not a problem. We we're discussing other things, like having recent uploads displayed after connecting to the server, searching for files and getting files listed the same way they're listed in the web interface (one line per file containing filename, size, path and short description) instead of looking at a list of files in a directory. |

My answer is AmiKit Real. You've got an icon on screen, "Aminet". You just click on it and it opens -with internet connection- the FTP site where you can download whatever. This is a 16 colors screenshot: BTW I made another similar icon-script that isn't included -and won't be- in the AKReal distro that makes the same with the EAB File Server. You can find it here: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=884 EDIT: BTW, hey, I didn't know we already can watch Youtube videos here!! That's great Last edited by Retrofan; 01 August 2016 at 02:26. |

Accessing Aminet using FTP is not the problem — I do that all the time. Finding where your file is — that is the problem. You can of course keep a local copy of the INDEX file, but searching that takes time even on a 68040.

If the Aminet WWW server could install an additional HTTP endpoint that returns search results in a structured, easily parsable format, a command line client would be easy to do.

http://aminet.net/info/adt/tree http://aminet.net/info/adt/ADT_RECENT_14 http://aminet.net/info/adt/ADT_RECENT_60 GZipped versions are available as well, just append .gz to the filename. listing files inside a particular directory could be done using the search engine (just like the normal web interface does), same for actual search results. We can easily tailor the format of the search results, one such custom job already exists, just append &format=pre to any search results: http://aminet.net/search?query=test&format=pre (this one was done for amiga-news.de's 'Weekly Aminet uploads' news items). We could also provide a completely custom results page (i.e. minus header/footer etc.). (*) there's also http://aminet.net/info/adt/ADT_LOCAL for the complete index of files, but I wouldn't use that one in a lightweight client, plus it seems to have a small bug right now |

Something like JSON should be nicely parsable.

Or just the old ADT format. The first field is a UNIX timestamp, right?

Thinking about it, we might have to define a new format - old ADT doesn't support "Architecture:". As I said, we're happy to provide whatever is required.
