Castle Excellent on GamePark32

Anyone that has seen a MSX knows Castle. I don't need to say a word about this game. While browsing at MSX Resource Center I've seen a Gamepark32 port of the game. We MSX lovers are going to enjoy this!

Here are the news:

Source: Gigamix

The GamePark32 is a portable gameconsole from Korea, that competes with Nintendo's Gameboy Advance. Having a powerful ARM9 processor, 4 channel wireless RF channels (for wireless multiplayer gaming), an USB port, and a good graphics engine, many people found their way to the GamePark.

There is a growing amateur-scene that develops games and demos for the GamePark (as there is for GameBoy Advance), and quite some ex-MSX developers, both amateurs and professional, chose this platform to develop new games and demos for.

We already reported about the port of Princess Maker for this platform. Today, I found out that good old Castle Excellent has been ported as well. And it looks smashing! Although the site is all in Korean, the screenshots are really worth looking at.

Big grin GP32

According to the information on this GP32 fan site, code can be compiled to run on Win32:

"Instead of releasing games that require an emulator to run on the PC, you can also compile natively as a Win32 binaries. For this purpose GamePark released the VC++ version of the GP32 SDK."

Sounds cool! But there already is an emulator: GeePee32.

Happy Wow

UPDATE:

Wow, check out this great GP32 site:

GB32 Extreme

They have a list of emulators for GP32 on the left menu. On the front page is a picture of a Commodore Plus 4 emulator running on the GeePeeGee emulator.

Now check this one out. Pinball Dreams for GP32! (attached picture)

Hmm.. maybe I should get one of these little systems. How much do they cost?

Now that does look good.

Something which quite amazed me about that site was the games emulated. I noticed immediately that one of the games was Big-mac. A game which I had tried once, never knew the name of but always wanted to try again. Talk about coincidence.

Goddamn, I WANT this Castle Ex ! I Love Castle EX to bits.

I didn´t know about GP32 , let alone a so good-looking version of Castle EX.

Now I hope it´s not fast. The NES version is faster than the MSX one, you have a weapon and the enemies shoot at you, and the rooms are bigger than the screen, so you have a bit of scroll (This was incredibly stupid ) the game get more into the action zone than into the puzzle zone.

I hope they made it like the MSX version.

Edit: After looking closely to the attached picture, I see it indeed is like the MSX version, not the NES one. That picture shows the 1st screen of the game, and in the NES version that screen is a little different.
