The only mentionable home port was for the Sega CD.

You couldn't port it properly anyway, because the original Arcade cabinet uses this 3-monitor widescreen setup. You can mimic it in MAME.

Disagree, The Amiga port was very good, and released a full 4 years before the Sega-CD port.

Absolutely love the Amiga rendition of Daddy Mulk, and the Amiga version is especially good when you consider it was released only a year after the original arcade version was released.

No-one playing the Amiga version in comparison to the arcade would have felt cheated whatsoever.

What was impressive was loading time: with 3.5 floppy, allmost realtime! So much SSD!

The amiga version has been built with the Arcade assets. Taito gave them to Random Access. And Ron Pieket did himself the music conversion as well. It's a custom synthetizer running on paula with 8 voices doing FM.

I asked him on Facebook, and he explained to me

It has the correct approch. But fitting the 3-monitor setup into a 4:3 TV version with big black bars doesn't do the trick. What a tiny image. No, i still prefer the late Sega CD version or MAME with a 16:9 monitor.

I still consider it as the best Arcade port ever made on Amiga. The black borders (top and down) on the Amiga have more than sense regarding the 3 screens wide of the original arcade game.

That was really one of the most amazing games on the early Amiga.
Sales Curve were one of the few who knew what they were doing back then.

If the game was developed by the sales curve did you know you had a quality product in your hands. It didn't matter if it was arcade port or an original game.

Agree with Galahad and PatmanQC - a port is supposed to be faithful and be delivered in months, not years. They did that.

Technically, for what's presented on-screen, I'd agree with any critique (not top gfx, small screen size) but then it would be a rewrite. 8-bit computers got rewrites for ports and so often were closer to original games.

The simplest example would be to get an artist to tile up the background and then it would be bigger, more colorful, and better designed than the original, with normal loading between levels. You could probably stay pretty faithful.

The 3 screen coin-op for a beat'em-up... dunno, more of a gimmick. I think very few if any situations in the game require 3 screens?
