SD to CF Card adapter

I've got a PCMCIA CF card reader that works really well with my A1200 for transferring files to and from the Amiga but when I need to copy files to the CF card from my laptop I have to use a USB CF card reader (obviously).

This got me thinking; would one of those SD to CF card adapters work in my setup? I'm referring to those adapters that basically look like a CF card and the SD card fits inside it.

Does anyone have any experience of using such an adapter?

Yes, they work. Just stay away from the ones that claim to take 2 SD cards simultaneously.

Why? I have some of those and they work fine as well. Inserting 2x 16GB micro SD card shows up as a single 32GB drive. They also work fine with just a single SD card installed.

I bought this one: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F322237313965

It works, but it is VERY picky with SD cards. Tried a few Sandisk and Samsung SDHCs with no luck, then an old 32MB Canon SD, again, no good. Finally got a 256MB micro SD in an adaptor from an old Nokia phone to work. So, yes they work, but it may take a bit of hit and miss before you get it functional.

In the end though - great for transferring directly from my laptop to the Amiga.

Okay, so maybe it depends on the brand. I've got one that doesn't work with the PCMCIA adapter (but fine with the PC).

I've got this very same one for two Micro SD cards and didn't find a single card that worked with the Amiga. Hence my earlier comment.

The SD to CF adapter mentioned above, I got from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The first one I got was dead on arrival - refused to work even on a Windows PC. They sent me another one and that one did work.

If you use PrepCard on the Amiga it will be listed as:

Code:
Key Technology Corp.
FC1307

Version 4.1 ÿ
And Device Manager on a Windows PC it is shown as:

Code:
FC-1307 SD to CF Adapter USB Device
I have added this to my compatibility spreadsheet (for CF cards/adapters I have tested) found at:

There's a difference whether they work on the internal IDE header and in a PCMCIA adapter. The PCMCIA port is very picky. I have only used SD adapters on the internal IDE header.
The dual adapters that I have used look like these:

I never had any compatibility problems with this, but I generally use Sandisk Ultra cards so I haven't tested many other types.

I found the Qumox adapters to very hit and miss. I bought two of the standard SD adapters. One works fine, the other was DOA.
The MicroSD ones seem to have a better success rate.
