In part 43, "Lijst BS1 (early version).adf" contains what seems to be a partial list/database of the BS1 collection. Quite old since the files are dated September 1988. Run HyperCat and load "games" or "prg" into it. You can sort by name, type or disk number. (Maybe some of the BS1 collection disks could have those numbers written on their labels???)
That could maybe be of some use to see which programs are on compilation disks. You should be able to print the lists to a text file for perusal on your PC. Some more disk sets which aren't obvious from filenames alone... Doug's Math Aquarium: MathAquarium_D1.adf, DM_Lib_Disk.adf, DM_Data.adf Kindwords: Kindworlds_v1.9.adf, Fonts.adf, Diet.adf (typo for Dict.adf I guess) More AmigaTeX(-related) disks: TEX.adf, TEX files.adf, LATEX macros.adf, LATEX files docs.adf, LASER#?.adf, 24nadler#?.adf, Laser#?.adf, Preview#?.adf, 9nadler#?.adf |

The full reply: Yes it does! That was an interesting box. I think it was his "close at hand" box. Next to the (original) CU amiga disks that obviously took some years to fill, it contained lots of "work" disks with office like stuff and lots of copy&disk utils. Interesting are the 5 "sources" disks that contain C and assembler sources for some very early concepts and tests for scrollers etc. There was also a 29-disk span Quarterback backup of his harddrive. It contains lots of personal files such as family stuff and invoices etc. It also contained names and addresses of "last warning" and "blacklist" peopl that apparently didn't pay their bills for C64 and Amiga stuff, haha :-) Apparently he was more an "administration" guy and not a coder because no source files where on the harddrive. Ok, the data is 30 years old, but it's still personal so I left it out. The list you mention is definitely a BS1 list as the source images of the "intro" are on another disk (PB95pic.adf) and the PO box returns in some intros. Hypercat was a program used by most of the swappers in the Flanders region in that time, so it seems. One of the other disks in that pack contains the "javago" list. That was the guy me and my friends went to for our "fix". As 12/13 years olds we biked the 16 km to his house to copy!copy!copy! until our money for spare disks ran out, or until he grew tired of us and threw us out. It was also at his place I saw a modem and a BSS for the first time ever. My eyes nearly popped out of my head as I instantly knew this was the world where I wanted to spend the rest of days ... oh the memories :-) Anyway, back to the BS1 list. Sadly the numbers on that list are not the ones that sometimes are written on the disks. We found - however - another disk with some "pen-pall" files that also contains lists of disks with numbers that DO match the one written on the disks. But - sorry to disappoint you - it's also not THE list either because there are A LOT more disks then items on the list and the other way around: not every item in the list is in the BS1 disk archive: the disk numbering has gaps. As it's all only partial and incomplete data, I just name the adf files by hand according to what's written on the label. If the label only contains a number, I made a small script that renames the adf to the name in the pen-pall list automatically. Most of the disks just have a label though, no numbers. |
