It's a Knockout! 2017/18: Game Vote

It's a Knockout! 2017/18: Game Vote
Starts: 00:01 November 5 Finishes: 23:59 November 18

As the curtain comes down on the tenth Super League season, a washed-up celebrity cuts the ribbon marking the opening of this year's Knockout competition to mild applause.

Rules

Knockout rules are here. Please read this if you're not familiar as it's a bit different to the normal League and it contains schedule information in the post above it.

Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt. Edited votes will be discounted. There is no double voting power for this competition.

Please only vote on one board - either EAB or Lemon. You can only vote once, and also it could cause confusion if you post your vote on both boards - it's easy for it to be counted twice by accident.

You can only vote for the 18 games played in the 2017 Super League:

R01: Rick Dangerous II
R02: Apidya
R03: The Adventures Of Quik & Silva
R03: Blocky Skies
R04: Mega Typhoon
R05: Pac-Mania
R06: Lionheart
R06: Tetris Pro
R07: Benefactor
R08: Turrican II
R09: Alien Breed Special Edition 92
R09: Arabian Nights
R10: Super Cars
R11: Golden Axe
R12: Formula One Grand Prix
R12: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge
R13: Amegas
R14: Monster Business

Extras

- Lemon thread

If you vote for Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge, you can optionally state up to two difficulty levels you'd like to play. We will play up to two of the most popular choices, depending on what round it gets played in.

The game with the most points from the voting will be played in the qualifying round from November 26 for two weeks. The second-placed game will be played in the first round proper, and so on.

Anyone is welcome to vote, play and chat at any time. May voting commence...

I don't think it's too controversial to suggest this isn't a vintage year as far as the crop of games for the Knockout tournament is concerned. There's a real mix of games that are far too long, to easy to be tied and too full of score-exploiting holes. However, I will do my best to pick five that will hopefully bring some degree of merriment to proceedings.

1. Apidya
2. Super Cars
3. Monster Business
4. Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge (Medium/Hard)
5. Blocky Skies (we'd use number of lives remaining as a tie-breaker)

There's now three days left to get your votes in. Remember we play four or five games in the competition so every vote counts. We haven't had an EAB vote for a while now...

I know I shouldn't, but this could be interesting.

1. Lionheart
2. Rick Dangerous II
3. Pac-Mania
4. Formula One Grand Prix
5. Amegas

Looks like Formula 1 has a good chance of becoming the first qualifying game. I'm no good on the modern F1 games, even with a steering wheel.

Welcome aboard!

Hopefully you'll get the opportunity to participate in the competition - the Knockout tournament can be great fun and unpredictable. The order of the games is always liable to change even if there's always one or two 'safe' picks in there - that can have a big bearing also.

Hopefully you'll enjoy it enough to check out the main Super League competition too

The voting is now over. 16 votes were submitted in total, and this one ended up being reasonably clear-cut, with only the order of the top five shuffling about towards the end. So here's the results, and how it translates into the schedule...

1. Formula One Grand Prix - 36 (Qualifying Round, Nov 26-Dec 9)
2. Super Cars - 30 (Round 1, Dec 10-Dec 23)
3. Apidya - 28 (Quarter-Finals, Dec 24-Dec 30)
4. Pac-Mania - 27 (Semi-Finals, Dec 31-Jan 6)
5. Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - 26 (Final/3rd Place Playoff, Jan 7-Jan 13)

(F1GP will likely consist of timed laps across two tracks, and Lotus will have Hard more played)

As usual, this comes with the caveat that we need at least twelve players to form a group stage after the qualifying round to ensure all five games are played. If only eight players qualify, then Lotus drops out of the schedule and tournament will end a week earlier.

Finally, here's how the other games fared:

6. Arabian Nights - 13
7. Rick Dangerous 2 - 13
8. Monster Business - 13
9. Mega Typhoon - 11
10. Lionheart - 9
11. Tetris Pro - 8
12. Amegas - 7
13. Turrican 2 - 7
14. Benefactor - 6
15. Golden Axe - 3
16. Blocky Skies - 3
17= The Adventures Of Quik & Silva - 0
17= Alien Breed Special Edition 92 - 0
