The clocks will get generated in the fpga from a 50mhz crystal I guess

And yes, they are MC68LC040 compatible. IE they have an MMU but no FPU. Which, as Plasmab says, who cares.
They're cheap, they're 3.3v and use less than 2 watts of power!
And I bet you can overclock them quite a bit, especially with a heatsink.
This is why I'm interested in the 33MHz chip and a TF540 design that's not dependent on a specific clock crystal speed. Here's hoping. ;')
The overclocking bit i'm dubious about. Usually for a stable overclock you need more voltage. But only time and measuring will give us the answer.

The point of this board is to let me write the HDL needed to marshal the high end 68Ks to the older port protocols. Once this one is up the door should be open to 68060 boards.

Sorry about arquing, but with 68040 FPU is more meaningfull. Many 68040 specifig apps and games requires FPU. Usually it is not even said in readme or guide, because 99,95% fact is 68040 accelerator has a FPU.

Sad fact it that there is not many programs with minium requirement 68040 cpu, but even sadder is, if it is not possible use 68040 targeted programs with 68040 accelerator becuase lack of FPU.

Checked for the live assembly of that unit yesterday, but I reckon you didn't have a chance to stream it after all.

We're you able to record this one? Thanks!

Edit: Just noticed this ones incomplete, we may have a stream yet

No I've had family staying so haven't been able to record.

The FPU isn't my main ambition with the 540. It's about the 060 bus marshalling.

I can agree that lacking FPU is sad. BUT! as plasmab say. it is all about how to get the stuff to work. then fpu/mmu doesn't really matter..

040 without FPU is like a vampire. yes. some software will need som strange patching etc. but hey.. it kinda works. and it is fast.

Yeah, it's not as though everyone must build every revision TF publishes.

Was there ever 68EC040 boards around for Amiga? Is this CPU supported by the OS at all?

IIRC Eyetech had EC040 and EC060 boards.

Supposedly Commodore had a configuration option for the A4000 with an LC040, never seen one myself.

Will this thing fit on an A2000? I was curious how it would perform if so.

It will all come down to what is in 68040.library and that can be patched

plasmab Can You try to hit MC68030 over 60MHz?
I'm curious how far can you go.
With Blizzard IV I was able to hit 62,5MHz. Maybe with your board more speed will be reachable.

IIRC it can use the internal registers to mark larger areas as specific access types which is needed for Zorro and memory. I think EC should work.

The person to ask here is Thomas Richter (thor), he still maintains MMUlibs which includes 680x0 libraries (its mostly the Motorola support package + some setup code), i'm sure he could tell you and update MMUlib as required.

He is.... a bit of a 'type' though :-D

A question for those who have successfully assembled their TF530s: which type of header are you using for the 68000 CPU socket?

The reason I am asking is that the only type of male pinstrip headers that I can find are those generally used for jumpers/IDE and similar connectors which are too thick to fit in a 68000 IC type socket as used, for example, on kipper2k boards and commonly found on Chinese IC female pinstrips sold on ebay.

This is important because in order to test the card on the A1000, I need to use Kipper's CPU relocator board but I can't plug it in with these headers.

I notice that kipper used female headers on all of his cards, but those had bigger holes so that the pins would protrude further down and still be usable, which I can't do here.
