New Floppy Drive Sound for WinUAE
hi guys..
i recorded my real amiga 500 floppy drive sound using a sampler and x-copy (track 0-80 checkdisk) and made it for WinUAE.. it sounds like 75% of my real amiga 500.. http://www.xtremesr.com/trackah123/d...ounds_a500.zip plz try this out and let me know what you think of it installation instructions : unpack the "uae_data" folder contained in the zip file to your WinUAE folder.. then run WinUAE and go to Sound.. then instead of "A500 (WinUAE built-in)" choose "A500" and off you go Last edited by trackah123; 08 January 2007 at 01:45. |

Just tried it out. A little laggy but pretty good! I'm impressed. My attempt at recording the A1000 drive sounds isn't as good as that.

Nice stuff trackah123!
Actually, I don't know if any of the WinUAE guru's are up for this... but I have a professional Neumann mic (M149) handy if anyone wants some crystal clear sounds of the Amiga drive. It's omnidirectional too, so I can isolate the surroundings. |

sounds nice .. there is only 1 thing about it that is probably winuae related..
you can never get it to sound exactly like an original amiga because probably winuae handles the "spinning sectors from 0-40-80" and back differently or well it sounds different .. too electronic and too sharp imho i didnt noticed that only on my sounds.. but all soundtypes (LOUD ST Build-in etc).. while the driveticks are very good (100% original) .. im not sure but to make winuae 100% to sound like a real amiga then the soundsystem or something else needs to be changed (the handling of sectorsearch/driveseekspin).. again i cannot confirm this.. but i think thats why it just doesnt sound like a real amiga for 100% i also noticed a difference in sound (sectorspin) on the same sample under different khz (44100 and 48000) Last edited by trackah123; 08 January 2007 at 11:39. |

I guess "emulating" this would need lots of experimentation (and different Amiga models and drives have very different sound) Quote:

yes now you say that.. that could be it.. i think a real amiga just blends smoothly together on sound when it comes to the sectorspin.. it also sounds more smooth (not sharp/snatchy)
while like you said winuae plays single samples.. when it goes from sector 1 to 2.. probably it stops with sector 1 (sample cut) and continues with sector 2.. less resonance or more voices/sounds at the same time probably will make it sound a bit more like the real thing but also more cpu-consuming i think (like in some games where you can set voices / sounds up to 32 / 64 ) |

im using 1.3.4 and too cannot play these floppy sounds. Its something emu related though I think as the LOUD setting doesnt work either. ST and Built in does work though.

thats strange yes.. for some people it works and for some it isnt.. the wave files are ok tho.. so yes it must be winuae/windows or even hardware related (soundcard)

I noticed the same. But i don't know exactly the time. I recently bought a new soundcard, i thought this was the problem.

It can't have anything to do with sound card, it is software mixed with paula audio stream before it goes to sound card.
First, check logs, as usual.. |

I can choose & save the "Amiga 500" floppy sounds, but after starting the emulator gui shows "No Sound".

Works for me in 1.3.3.
Excellent work trackah! I don't want to disrespect hal's previous efforts too much, but well, it's a fact that the disk had sounded as if it was shortly before its wit's end! |

retro-nerd, i see you have a c-media card.. and also your numbers are alot higher on the "sound" lines in your logfile then mine.. maybe that has something to do with it.. dunno.. i hope toni can figure it out
