WinUAE, HDD, AGA & WHDLOAD.
Hi all,
First post on this forum. I installed AIAB (Amiga In A Box) on WinUAE and have updated all the programs that comes with it (WHDLOAD, Scaleos etc) but I'm finding that most WHDLOAD games that I try to run in it just gives me a black screen with no games loading. My setup of it is to use a 68020 chip with AGA chipset. Originally I used a standard install of workbench and most games seemed to load find, just WHDLOAD on Amiga in a box doesn't seem to load most games. Most of the games I'm trying aren't AGA games so may require a downgrader like the original A1200 needed to play some standard A500 games, I've always assumed though that most automatically downgrade when ran through WHDLOAD and didn't need any downgraders set up. Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem or to configure Amiga in a box so that i can automatically run A1200 (AGA games) and standard A500 games? Does Amiga In A Box need relokick (Or whichever downgraders it was updated to after I left the Amiga scene for the PC scene)? If so where do I put them on a PC setup (which folder and files)? Alternatively what would be the best setup to make for a fully useable and compatible Amiga system so it can play games from all generations of Amiga without having to have multple HD images setup and having to quit and load between different Amiga systems. Sort of an all in one setup. I should also mention I'm using Igame as a launcher for the WHDLoad files as well as trying to use the WHDload directly from their folders. I'd appreciate any help from more knowledgeable users |

AIAB works well with WHDLoad, make sure you have KickStarts and Soft-Kicker in DEVS/KickStart

Thanks for the reply Amigasystem. Okay I've downloaded those and unpacked them, I know where to put the kickstart files (now, which I had some in there already but not some you showed in the image) but where do I put the Allockick, Kickstat, Skick and Skick346 files?
Also do I edit the startup sequence and put this: SKick .... FORCE AddMem .... AllocKick ... At the top of it? |

Nothing needs adding to the startup sequence, just the .pat and .rtb files from skick and then the actual roms from elseware named to match the various .pat files, so for example kick 1.3 is called kick34005.A500 and kickstart 3.1 for a 1200 is called kick40068.a1200.
Just those two files should have the majority of things running ok. |

This is my Devs\kickstarts folder so that should be fine to downgrade then and the games should access the files to work without having to restart the emulator and boot into an installed workbench with another configuration? |

Do the files ending a500 a600 a1200 and a4000 with no other extension have a size of 256k? AS from memory they exist as funny files as well that need overwriting.

1.2, 1.3 (.a500) files have a size of 256k. Newer versions (4006x.A600/A1200/A4000) have a size of 512k.
whdload needs the kick & .RTB files for some slaves, but not for all slaves, and it depends on the requirement of the slave. For instance Turrican 2 doesn't need kickstart, while Test Drive 2 needs kickstart 1.3 (.A500), and an A1200 game like Virocop AGA needs A1200/A4000 40068 kick. We try not to use kickstarts in whdload, and when it's needed we use A500 (kickstart 1.3), unless it doesn't work for this particular game, in which case we can use A600 3.1 kick (68000 compatible 40063 kick), or A1200/A4000 kicks for 020+/AGA games. .PAT files aren't used. |

This is my complete devs folder with files and their sizes listed. Hopefully it's all that's needed. Alternatively can someone package up their devs folder and upload that please so I can just remove mine and unpack the one that's needed by WHDLoad games. I've also noticed a lot of the games show as being older versions and needing updating but I updated them through a post on this site, is there somewhere else that has a complete up to date set of WHDload games on it for download? Can PM the link if it's not allowed to be put in a post. |

Anyone who'd pack up their Kickstarts and upload them would get (at least temporarily) banned for doing so. If you don't have all the kicks, just buy Amiga Forever since it includes them.

Or better yet just use a search engine to find what you need and avoid rewarding the IP parasites at Cloanto.

The KickStart can also be captured by your Real Amiga

My Amigas are stored in the attic somewhere so capturing them isn't an option right now. I have an image of the files I already have on my PC but not sure if they're the required ones so if someone could look at the image I uploaded and confirm to me they're right or list what I am missing so I can find them I'd appreciate it.
As for buying Amiga forever, never is the answer to that one. Same as their C64 forever is never going to be purchased by me, I have the original machines (C64, A500, A600, A1200) with workbench disks etc so there's no reason to purchase their efforts. |

Ugghhh, im trying to run the Tinyus whdload and its moaning about kick34005.a500 which is obviously A500 v1.3, ive tried several versions of this rom and all fail with "invalid kickstart image"
I can launch it directly using Tinyus_Beta from the whdload uploaded but not through iGame( which gives the kickstart error) and launching it with Tinyus_Beta doesnt support 2 button joystick( maybe i should be posting in the Tinyus thread ) Last edited by lmimmfn; 01 March 2021 at 03:31. |
