Need Help Boot to Pic on Disk/ADF
I'm a bit rusty useing the amiga these days so could do with a little bit of help.
I want a disk/adf to boot to display a picture, I know there are various boot to picture applications about, but which is the easiest and smallest to use as disk space is limited. Any advice on the best program to use and a quick set up guide would be good. Cheers |

Maybe you will find good gif/jpg -> iff/ilbm converter for Windows/MS-DOS too...

Ok, I've got the image to a reasonable size gif.
Now I still need a good program that will boot to this image on a floppy/adf. As I said, I know there are dfferent programs, but aren't they more for booting an image on a HD rather than Floppy? I know about bootgirl, but don't want to use that as the resolution is very limited, I believe its 352x285 or something. I want to boot to a gif of 640x480, basically I want a picture as a menu instead of text, then have a keymap setup to load various executables. If any of you are in the know, I would be greatfull of any advice. Cheers |

As gif is not a very common/native format on the Amiga (contrary to IFF/ILBM f.e.) I don't think there's a program that would allow you to show a gif picture while booting from disk. I might be totally wrong of course.
For iff pictures the only one I can remember is bootgirl but that you don't want to use as you said. Edit: do you need this for this picture ONLY? then I could prepare a disk for you which does that. Edit: just re-read it. Hmm, don't feel like messing around with the system, I thought you only wanted to have it during boot. |

I might be able to use a iff but thats twice the size of the gif, hard to say how much room I will have remaining on the floppy until I sort this pic problem out first, I have no idea of size of boot pic program etc.
It would be good if you could make a simple adf that boots to a test pic, maybe a iff 640x480, then I could sort the rest of the stuff myself, I'll get there in the end, just a bit rusty |

What system are you booting this disk on?
I was only wondering because the filesize should be quite small if the image displayed can only be a maximum of 256 colours (AGA) or 32 colours (not including HAM/HB modes). |

There were a couple of tools from AUI coverdisks "C-Over" and "C-Fade" that used to bring up a picture and let the startup-sequence continue underneath. The only showed IFF (ILBM) pics though...
And unless you want a nasty interlace display I wouldn't choose 640x480 And if IFF is too big you could always pack it with LHA and then unpack it to RAM: when required... |

I also saw "ppshow" used quite often back in the day, I don't know if it supports all kinds of iff files or only "fixed size" iff's though. You can download it here: http://aminet.net/search?query=ppshow Hmm, just checked the readme, it even supports gif. Might be what you need!
