Atari800MacX is very good, for anyone interested in emulating an 8-bit Atari system on a Mac.

I'm using Atari800Win which gets the job done but maybe there are better alternatives. Any decent ones for the Amiga?

And yes she'll be getting an Amiga games primer very soon
Poor thing? You kidding the Atari 8-bits actually had better capabilities than the C64. Here's the thing I will always find really funny and yet annoying at the same time.

History lesson;

The main chips in the Atari 8-bit line were created by none other than Jay Miner. That's right, Father of the Amiga.

The annoying thing is, most people who loved their Atari 8-bits at the time didn't know that Jay Miner was the mastermind behind it and were fans of Atari computers. So most people that had an 8-bit naturally went to the Atari ST.

Now on the otherhand, the C64 was created from fairly stock chips and pushed out to market by Jack Tramiel. Who then left Commodore to head up Atari and create the Atari ST, while a bit before that Jay Miner had quit Atari and created the Amiga company, which then went on to be bought out by Commodore (pretty much to piss Atari off).

So when it really comes down to it, if it weren't for brand loyalty, most Atari 8-bit owners should have bought an Amiga and most C64 owners should have bought an Atari ST.

I went from my Atari 800Xl (which had 4 channel sound) to the Atari Mega STe (the STe finally had caught up to the Amiga (mostly) spec wise, but it was too little too late. The ST only had 3 sound channels (less than the 8-bit, wtf?) and only 512 colors.

The Atari 8-bit really is the ancestor of the Amiga. Even down to it having a lot of custom resolutions and just being an overall awesome machine at the time. Still to this day it does some of the coolest raster effects I've ever seen.

Unfortunately by the 8-bit's later years, Atari had somehow pissed off a lot of developers, so they would release games for the C64, but not the Atari 8-bits. The Ultima series is a good example of this, 1-4 came out for the Atari 8-bit, and the C64 had all the way up to 6 (though from what I have read Ultima 6 on the C64 was horrible to the extreme!)

History lesson over;

More on topic. My brother and I took turns trying to beat Pitfall 2 and we finally did it!!! And still to this day the music will pop into my head and won't go away for days!

By the way, Archon 1 and 2 have Native Amiga versions (with a bit better graphics and stereo sound! Yes, the game is old enough that the Amiga version brags about having stereo sound.)

There were so many games on the Atari 8-bits that were just awesome. If you want a really cool game to play (though it is single player) try out The Quest of the Space Beagle, which is the sequel to Jupiter Mission 1999. I never played the first one, but the second one was awesome.

Sorry for the long post / rant. It had been something that has been bugging me for years, since I first learned about the whole thing.

Hi Boo Boo,

Joe Fenton's Computer Projects page is a bit touch and go on the Wayback Machine, but I've found a version where all those downloads, plus Apple II Emulation source code (AII_Src.lha.bin), W.A.C.K.E. (Atari 8-bit Emulation) MacOS Classic program (WACKE1.6.0.sit.hqx) and PCx (486 AT PC Emulation) MacOS Classic program (PCx1.1b5.sit.hqx) are available (links working):

Finally got it working - If anyones interested,thanks to the link below
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=17480

I think maybe AF was a bit generous with there Review - It is a good emulator alot faster than any of the C64 emulators

centipede 5200 ran, witch was great as all the 2600 emulators are Shit on the Amiga everything works but no collision with the Spider, that makes it a bit easy, maybe get different results with different roms.
