Ancient Domains Of Mystery (ADOM) new update for WB3 020 Amigas
I will post more information when I am not currently busy with another project. But the rather excellent ASCII rouge-like RPG ADOM has recently been updated, within the last 24 hours if I'm understanding correctly, and among these updates is a new Amiga version as well as versions for the other usual platforms such as Windows and Linux.
Anyway this is big news for me as the Amiga version of ADOM seems to get updated far less often than the other platforms. And it is perhaps one of the best games I have ever played. Not in my top 10, but pretty darn close. Author Thomas Biskup has obviously put a lot of love into this game, and he's obviously into real D&D, the kind with the books and the dice as I am of the opinion that this game is perhaps the closest to playing real D&D on a computer as you are likely to get. My younger brother, who is an even bigger fan of this game than I has just emailed me the latest 020 version (he's not as familiar with the Amiga as I am, even though he had 2 Amiga's in his bedroom as a child, and had to confirm with me which CPU the A1200 has:). I think that this may only be currently available to people who donate money to the project, such as my afore mentioned brother, so I will not share it here. But I may add it to the EAB file server in the coming days if nobody else beats me to it. So anyway, why not get the old Aminet version to see if you like it too? And if you do then you might like to look into locating the new version, which most likely includes the many tweaks to the gameplay found in the premium Steam version, although obviously not the graphics and sound. Now while I have stated in a couple of other threads that I'm not particularly interested in playing games ported to the Amiga as opposed to original Amiga titles for this game I'm willing to make an exception, as I believe the Amiga version to be the most fun to play, and I have indeed opted to play this game on my A1200 instead of my more modern PC in the past. There are numerous reasons why I favour the Amiga version, but the first one that comes to mind is that the thick Topaz font looks a lot nicer than Courier as used by the windows version. |

I'll need to give it a look, can see they have 68000, 68020 and 68040 optimised versions on the site
