Toyota Celica GT Rally install failure!

Have submitted a mantis report for the following issue:

CT RAW files created from two original dumps of Toyota Celica GT Rally from Amiga Format Game Pack 2 fail to install in WHDLoad under WinUAE, files in The Zone!

Dump 1 will stick on track 59 in RAWDIC with a checksum error, 'Retry' will not get past this error!

Dump 2 will stick on various tracks with checksum error but 'Retry' will get past the errors but will stick on track 111 and 'Retry' will not get past the error!

If I create self made IPF's in disk-utilities from the original dumps, both copies resolve correctly with no bad tracks, identifies Shaun Southern MFM and Protoscan Longtracks. Both IPF's load in WinUAE and pass the Protoscan check. However, the IPF's stick on track 3 in RAWDIC with a No Sync error and will not install, so could that be a disk-utilities issue? The CT RAW files also correctly resolve all the Shaun Southern MFM tracks but the Protoscan tracks fail, don't think a CT RAW can represent them correctly!

So is this a new variant not fully supported in WHDLoad?

As a side note, the unused tracks contain the same MFM format as Phantom Fighter, tracks 2, 110 & 112-157, these tracks are also preserved in Official IPF #1766, this IPF does correctly install in WHDLoad.

Let me help : track 58.1 on dump 1 is a bad track and requires a redump and possibly a clean up.

Dump 2 is faulty as well : tracks 55.0,67.0 are faulty and also 70.1,74.1,75.1

Both disks need a clean up and a redump of those tracks.

That is strange, both dumps create working IPF's in disk-utilities and show no bad tracks?

Dump 1 & 2 should be perfect then in WHDLoad as tracks 58.1 in Dump 1 is not used, and tracks 55.0, 67.0, 70.1, 74.1, 75.1 in Dump 2 are also not used as the WHDLoad installer finishes after reading track 111 in RAWDIC using SPS #1766, so those tracks are skipped!

Disk layout:
Tracks 0.0 / 0.1 are AmigaDOS
Track 1.0 is not used (same format as Phantom Fighter)
Tracks 1.1 to 54.1 & 55.1 are Shaun Southern MFM
Tracks 55.0, 56.0 to 78.1 are not used (same format as Phantom Fighter)
Tracks 79.0 / 79.1 use the Protoscan Longtrack

Even the Phantom Fighter tracks resolve correctly in disk-utilities using the appropriate phantom_fighter parameter?

So ignoring the Phantom Fighter tracks, no actual game data for this game is being reported as bad Denis?

Output of disk-utilities using both ss_mfm and phantom_fighter:

T0.0-0.1: AmigaDOS
T1.0: Phantom Fighter
T1.1-54.1: SS-MFM (Shaun Southern)
T55.0: Phantom Fighter
T55.1: SS-MFM (Shaun Southern)
T56.0-78.1: Phantom Fighter
T79.0-79.1: Protoscan
T80.0-83.1: Unformatted

It's just bizarre

So does Toyota Celica GT Rally actually use that CHW data that's on the disk?

it's not data, CHW is a disk format created by Christian Weber. It exists in many forms.

Note that the tracks of toyota celica have been written on a used disk.

That's why you have the CHW 1800 track format. But the game tracks only use the Shaun Southern track format. the official IPF of the game includes them, but they are not used.

I think the terminology just gets misunderstood So both my CT RAW dumps are actually OK as only the CHW format is showing errors

Got it

Unfortunately it doesn't install in WinUAE/WHDLoad, No Sync Signal on track 3 error! Same error as the IPF generated in disk-utilities gives in WHDLoad. Can you check my Dump 1 against IPF #1766 and see if there is anything different?

Simple : as explained in the mail i sent you, the whdload install requires all tracks from 1.1 to 74.1 to be good. Problem : you have bad CHW 1800 tracks on your dump, so to fix this, you need to ask stingray to support only the shaun southern tracks.

I just updated the Mantis entry and gave the link to your IPF without the CHW tracks, hopefully an new install slave can be made to install only tracks 3-109 and track 111, or does RAWDIC show the tracks differently?

rawdic track 0 = track 0.0
rawdic track 1 = track 0.1
rawdic track 2 = track 1.0
rawdic track 3 = track 1.1
.
.
.
rawdic track 158 = track 79.0
rawdic track 159 = track 79.1

Is that correct?
