3.5" drive in A1200

I have an IBM Deskstar 15gig lying around, and thought about maybe fitting in the A1200. Would this adapter be any good?

i dont think it will fit as its really big. Better use "cable adapter", not a PCB

Heys m8y, this item will work as the way you describe, I have a couple of pcbs like that here too... I will however advise you NOT to use the power coupling provided on the card as I am pretty sure that some 3.5" draw a bit more than 500ma and the Amiga ide is a twitchy beast at best.

Instead draw your power from the floppy device power connector. or alternatively (and if you are attempting to close the case afterward) use a 44pin to 40pin cable and again draw power from the fdd port.

another (and some what better method) is to get a buffered IDE interface for arround £10, not only with this can you use upto 4 IDE devices, but also use longer cables too!!!

heres a ide interface

and another

and yet again for the 1200 another!

I am sure you can find a code for the first one (you wont have to google too hard!)

heres a cable adapter
(this you can only use upto a 60cm cable with two devices)

I will say in my own personal experience that two devices on an unbufferd chain on my 1200 had issues from time to time, other have reported that they have had no issues at all. However I am going back over 12 years and lets just say... IDE standards were developed by many and checked by few (Damn you mistumi roms!!!!) sorry... a little pain there.

Hey ORSM T,

You just missed a buffered IDE adapter on Ebay AU. It had 2x40 pin ports and 1x44 pin.

Something like that would suit you much better. It was the second of the doo-dads Zetro posted.
