I've been wondering similar, but for use on a real amiga - can you use a megadrive controller for example?

Yep, you can use a megadrive pad with no problems but most platform games are not as good as with a joystick as it feels wrong when you are having to use press up to jump.

I did get round this though. The megadrive A button is not used on the amiga so if you are good with circuits and soldering you can solder some wires from the solder points near the contacts on one side of the joypad pcb and connect them so they are triggered by the A button. You can now use A to jump in platform games as it tricks the joypad into thinking you are pressing up!
Its a lot simpler than it sounds...

Oh, and back to the subject I think a psx or xbox-s control pad works well in UAE as you have all the triggers and buttons in the right place but as a bonus you have a far better D-Pad than the original cd32 joypads!

I have a comp pro joypad, getting a cd32 joypad is the only way to have 4 buttons on cd32 games on a real amiga... unless you want to solder stuff...

New XBox360 controller is even easier to use, no need for adapters (normal USB-connector) and there is official Windows XP driver from Microsoft.

Excellent news.

I currently use 2 x Xbox controllers via a 4 x USB Adapter. Will need to purchase and try some XBox 360 controllers
