Restoration of Amiga prototypes

Hi.

putting this same question in several sites.

I got some Amiga prototypes here. Amiga 4000Rev1 (also called Amiga 3400 boards), Amiga 1200 prototypes etc.

unfortunally none is working (drawback with prototypes is. WAS it ever working? )

they have capacitorleakages etc etc. so this will be a long restore-project.
but. how should I do? either just clean it up and try to troubleshoot it.
OR as there is some corroded components etc. remove the components. clean the pcb in IPA and then slowly build it up with new logic and passives (using same chipset that was on ofcourse) by doing this. I can also clean up under all components etc.

I want input. what do you think would be the best restorationmethod of those rare boards?

Please do not strip and renew, it would be better to replace leaking capacitors to stop further damage and keep them as display pieces rather than shotgun them. I have 2 rev1 a4000 (a3400) one I changed one logic chip to get it going, it took a lot longer to get to where where I thought I had reasonably done all options to pinpoint the problem before I changed it, if it was a regular a4000 pcb I would have tried replacing the suspect IC a lot sooner as it doesn’t have the same historical significance IMO.

Pictures will come.. and you tube..

I think the solution will be: I will remove the ICs. clean up under. clean ICs, test them in a tester, and if working put the same chip in.
someline like a vintage car. when you remove parts, clean and put back

I wouldnt change anything on them or try and get them working(unless its minor work without having to replace anything)
If i went to a computer museum i would prefer to see Amiga prototypes as is regardless of working or not.

I COULD display them "as is" but would be nice if I got them in their former glory..

I will howeer try to not replace with modern parts. if a chip is neded to be replaced I will try toget hold of a chip from that timeperiod.
