Cody's Amiga Game Milestones
I thought that I might do some of those lists that were mentioned in the What List Should Cody Do Next? thread.
This one was suggested by Dastardly. It's about Amiga game milestones - and I will take 'milestone' to include the good events as well as the bad ones... These are not in any order. Amiga Gaming Milestone: 1 Games: Shadow Of The Beast 1&2 Milestone Achievement: Selling Amigas with astonishing eye candy and sonic delights I remember getting my first Amiga (an A500) home and setting it up. I played some games like Rick Dangerous. I also tried Shadow Of The Beast 2, a game in my Amiga pack. Coming from the Spectrum, this was a real eye-popping event; the stunning intro sequence with amazing sampled sounds, the title and in-game music and the game graphics. Many an Amiga was been sold in order to play SOTB 1&2. |

Glad you decided to do this thread Cody. I look forward to seeing the games included as well as the disputes about people disagreeing about your choices
BTW I totally agree with your first choice |

The credit goes to you Dastardly, for the idea about the first entry!
Amiga Gaming Milestone: 2 Game: Rise Of The Robots Milestone Achievement: Demonstrating that great graphics and a massive advertising campaign will sell a crap game. Not a happy milestone, but Risible Robots cemented the idea that a publisher could throw lots of money into marketing instead of gameplay and still make a tidy profit. The graphics helped too, but this isn't much of a game. Look out for a review in issue 1 of APoV! |

I'd still go for [movieLicence][OCEAN] Rise at least had some nice FMVs
Other milestones (guessing): *Lemmings, most ported amiga game. *Dragons Lair, first FMV “game” *IK+, only playable amiga beat em up |

Lemmings will be along shortly!
Amiga Gaming Milestone: 3 Game: Stardust Milestone Achievement: Demonstrating that great graphics and a low price won't sell a great game. Another unhappy milestone, but gamewise it was the opposite of Risible Robots. Stardust had great gameplay and graphics and was sold only through mail order at a lower price. It didn't sell well and prompted the developers to release Super Stardust at a more expensive price and via more traditional means through Team 17. |

I didn't know that Stardust was only sold through mail order. That was a somewhat bad decision I'd say. I still don't order much to go through the mail, not even in this time of the internet.

Stardust was indeed great.. the only Asteroids clone that was better than it was Super Stardust
Talking about Rise of the Robots... I discovered this game got a SEQUEL! I was reading some old gaming magazines from a friend... he had an issue of a magazine from Portugal: Mega Score. It had a review of the PSX version of "Rise 2: Resurrection" . A sequel for Rise of the Robots, and the reviewer slagged off the game |

To simply say that Rise 2: Resurrection is better than the original would not only be a pointless understatement (almost any other fighting game is better than the dismal original), but would be undermining the fact that Rise 2 is a surprisingly decent 2 dimensional beat 'em up.

Stardust
Stardust was available in the shops, thats where mine came from.
And so far, milestones, I cannot disagree. The SOTB demo was enough to get me to junk my Atari ST and get an Amiga A5oo 1.2, which coincidentally, I am STILL using now?!!! Stardust sales wise did fair business, but certainly not as bad as Super Stardust. That game was criminally undersold (Its just Asteroids said Martyn Brown/Team 17 to me). If the company promoting it can't be arsed, what chance does a game have? |

Okay, so I'm wrong!
However, it was sold through mail order as well and possibly a bit cheaper too. |

Amiga Gaming Milestone: 4
Game: Lemmings Milestone Achievement: Championing originality on the Amiga and the porting to many platforms Time for a good milestone - Lemmings, of course, was a highly original game. The idea, execution and presentation were superb. Plus, it was ported to loads of other platforms. It all started on the Amiga, though! |
