Excellent! Another one to strike off the list.. or add to list whichever sounds better
Gives me hope for the other three I have here! One of them is ANCIENT! It is of the type that is fitted to the A1000 and Atari STM (single sided drive style). Hoping I can fix it, if not somehow have to extend the plastic facia to fill the gap after fitting a new one... Anyway, this is brilliant news Last edited by ElectroBlaster; 24 October 2014 at 22:51. |

Hello.
I was repairing a Chinon 357A. Did not read the discs. Clean the heads and change the capacitors and still did not read discs. I found that HD sensor was failing and therefore the engine would not turn at the correct speed. I watched the other sensors, RDY and WRITE PROTECT and also fail. It seems to be a common problem in Chinon 357A. Open and cleaned the sensor with contact cleaner . There is a small spring inside the sensor, be careful. If anyone has this drive and found not read the discs. Check the sensors. |

Yep, this is a very common fault with these chinon mechanisms. Unfortunately this is something that should only be done if you're good with precise work. It's all too easy to ruin the switch when you take it apart.

Hi.
Another example of FDD repairs. This is a 5.25 floppy drive. The original capacitor is beautiful. Welding clean and bright. But the floppy drive does not work. We took the original capacitor, measure it and see that he is dead. We replace capacitor and the drive is working properly. I just want to prove that a capacitor that seems perfect can be completely dead. regards |
