Obtaining Kickstart ROM From A1200

I remember last time I asked this I got a fair bit of flaming from people pointing me to the forum rule not to ask for kick.rom's - so i'll clarify this time.

I've got an a1200, with workbench, a 2MB siren HD and a bunch of games, and I'd assume I've got a kickstart ROM in there somewhere too. I need the kickstart ROM to run WinUAE (which i want to use to play a few games i haven't been able to find for the amiga that i've remembered about) - How can i retrieve it from my Amiga for use on my PC?

Put TRANSROM (comes with WinUAE) on a 720KB formatted MS-DOS Disk, put the Disk in your A1200 and type "MOUNT PC0:" in your Shell/CLI Window to access the disk ....

Now you copy TRANSROM onto your WB in the C folder by typing "COPY PC0:TRANSROM TO HD0:C" into CLI

Now you can create a kick.rom file by typing "TRANSROM >PC0:KICK.ROM" .... after the transfer is complete, just put the disk back into your PeCe and copy the file KICK.ROM onto your HD and use it with WinUAE, have fun

You are assuming that he has Workbench 3. 0 installed. If he happens to have 3.1 CrossDOS will be nowhere to be found and he won't be able to transfer anything.

I think if you have the Cloanto program shit it can dump the rom from your amiga directly from the PC interface. If you don't have CrossDOS this might be your best first try.

Dunno where your copies of 3.1 come from, but CrossDOS is definitely part of Workbench 3.1

i've got a bunch of PC floppies (and amiga floppies) but I have no idea if they're 720KB or how to MS Dos format them (I can normally find a format disk button in windows after a few mins of searching though...)

Anyhow, will these be the disks I need? I don't want to hurt my lovely little amiga at all, so just making sure before I do anything

If the floppy has a second hole on the opposite side of the write-protect switch it is 1.4MB (HD = High Density)

Insert a DD disk (Double Density = 720KB, without the second hole) into the floppy drive, open Windows Explorer, My Computer and right-click on drive A:, then choose Format from the menu. Change size to 720KB and click on Start.

If you want to format the disk on the Amiga, start PC0 from the Storage3.1 disk, insert the floppy into the internal floppy drive, wait until the PC0:BAD icon appears, click it once so that it is selected, hold down the right mouse button and choose Format Disk from the Icon menu.

If you have XP, it doesnt have a 720KB option in the format dialog, MY XP doesnt anyway, put a 720K disk in the 1.44 drive and all it wants to do is to format it to 1.44

Either make a shortcut to the following or just type it in the run box or dos box.

"format.com A: /T:80 /N:9 /FS:FAT"

Well.. no it doesn't, due to licensing reasons, CrossDOS only appeared on 3.0 and 2.1. Dunno where you got your copies from, really.

That´s not true I got FOUR copies of WB 3.1, one came originally boxed with my A1200, one came originally boxed with my Kick 3.1 Bundle for A500/2000 and two I got used with some other Software at EBay and ALL of them have CrossDos on it !!!

Put Scotch Tape over the second hole.

Got the same problem. I format a 720 kb disk on any of my PCs, it becomes unusable even when trying to read it on the Amiga. If I format it on the Amiga, then it works on the PC. Strange stuff.
