I am NOT a leecher!
while browsing through the HOL it suddenly gave me a request to type out some numbers/text as it appears in a box to the left...this is fine, but after I type in the code it will not let me continue! I have tried everything and it won't believe me!

Damn, I tried to simulate a leecher by doing a search for US Gold then opening a bunch of pages (about 40!) and it didn't prompt me for anything! I feel let down!
RCK: I'd be interested to see when you popup the leech requester - is it based on a certain number of page requests in a certain amount of time or something? If I closed the window as soon as the page appeared does that circumvent the leeching code or that runs before any of the page is sent? |

Close the page ? lol no it's a server side protection, if your quota is excedeed, all the hol pages will ask you to proove that you are not a bot. rattus: if you type the correct strings, the HOL will be unlocked. |

Doh!
Yes, I was logged in as myself - silly me! By closing the pages as soon as they started to appear I closed them so as to not download a bunch of files that I didn't need... so not too much bandwidth wasted I hope!

I tried again today and it gave me a different string, this time I got it right after 3 tries and I'm allowed back in! and honestly I was just browsing not leeching (i.e downloading dats, screenshots etc or whatever else defines a leecher). besides...
rant/ I WAS JUST LOOKING! LOOKING BECAUSE I WAS CURIOUS! LOOKING! NOT LEECHING! LOOKING! /rant <wipes foam from mouth> surely I'm allowed to browse the HOL, thats what it's there for right? I just wanted to see what other cool games there were that I didn't know about. *pleads innocence* Honestly if you want a good leeching demonstration then just give me your FTP details to add to my collection |

Hey, maybe RCK's infamous anti-leeching device is a mouse-trap! Where's APFelon to document this new rodent war?! |

Uh oh
Yikes! Now I don't feel so bad because I just got the leecher warning too. I've been typing in lots of searches so maybe this is the reason, though I don't know how much bandwidth I've used. I have cable so it's fast. :-(
It'd be cool if we could see how much bandwidth we've used up while browsing the archive. Feeling guilty.... |

if I indicate the user's limit in real time, it would be easier for leecher to leech
one warning is not so important, but too much warning is auto-ban. |
