Palette problems

Hi folks,

Sorry, not sure if this falls under coding but it's driving me nuts.

I've started my Double Dragon port in Amos. It's working fine and I now have a movable and animated character with set screen boundaries etc.

The problem is the palettes for the background and sprite just will not match match up.

I don't get it, I remapped both the current sprites and the background to the same palette in PPaint then saved in the correct format, but in when I run the program in Amos the sprite's colour is all messed up. If I use "Get Sprite palette" then the background gets messed up.

This isn't the first time I've attempted a game and the palette is always one of the first things to do. Usually remapping in PPaint does the trick, but it's just not working this time and I don't know what to do.

I'm dying to get back into the code editor, but I've spent about six hours trying to get this damn palette problem fixed and I've pretty much got no-where.

Honestly don't know what to do next, so any help would be great, thanks!

ok,when you say messed up you mean colors got changed or got repositioned? In the first case remember that while dpaint (especially AGA) uses 00-ff for RGB scale, the old OCS/ECS use only 0-f , therefore there might be some shift; in the second case i remember sprites using the second half of a 32 color palette, but hope someone more knowledgeable will jump and explain better.

Thanks for the reply. The colour order all seems to be the same in the palettes in PPaint and the outcome is identical whether it's AGA, OCS or ECS.

I did a short video to illustrate the problem. As you can see the bob is almost transparent.

Sprites can only use colours 16–32.

Bingo! That was it. I rearranged the palette so that the bob's colours came first and it's fine now.

That's one to write down in the notebook for future reference. Thanks all. Great help as always!
