Arrow AmigaExplorer Protocol

Hi,

Seasons greetings.

This is a multi-part question:

1) Is there any *modern* software that runs on unix variants which would allow me to copy files to my amiga 500 and 600? Currently I am using an old windows laptop with the official AmigaExplorer software -- This is not my main laptop, so it is a pain to keep it hanging around all of the time.

I am aware of http://www.faime.demon.co.uk/retro/lxamiga.html . This no longer appears to work with new versions of amiga explorer. I spent some time debugging this and found that the amiga side sends back fewer bytes than expected for the ACK. I reckon the protocol has changed.

2) Failing question 1), does anyone know the innards amigaexplorer protocol? I was unable to find this on the net. If I knew how this worked, I could easily hack up a python script to copy files to my amiga.

Cheers

Edit: Mosty interested in the serial protocol, not the TCP/IP protocol.

not what you are asking for, but do you know about the Network Boot Disk ?
maybe usefull - at least for the a600.
once i tried to fix the mlink package from aminet - not sure if it does work. but take a look, perhaps usefull for your a500 ?

Good shout, but sadly I don't have ethernet hardware for my 600.

I guess I am looking for something generic that I can run on both systems.

An alternative route would be to write my own amiga server and unix client. I recall looking at the amiga C API a while back -- IIRC it was not pretty even for 80s C code. Not looked into amiga basic...

what about Contiki? another link: hitmen-website.

you wrote you would try to create something from scratch - maybe you can try to port this?

edit: you found this already: Amiga Explorer Open - just some logfiles.

I think you misunderstand -- I would not be porting an operating system to amiga

The log files in that link could be useful though.

Talk to Mike Battilana at Cloanto, very nice guy. His initials are MCB, that's also the name of his email account - which is obviously hosted at the cloanto.com server

I'm pretty sure he's going to give you whatever information you need (provided he has it handy).

If you knock something up, I'd be very interested in a copy of your script. A Linux version of Amiga Explorer would be very nice, even if it's just a simple script for copying files from the console.

hehe, not the whole thing - i saw on the hitmen website
Code:
x86 (msdos), Atari Portfolio, Atari ST

 Port by: Michael Bernstein (web)
 Compiler: ?
 Status: ?

 1.0 src
 uIP src
they ported the tpc/ip stack for using with a rs232 line

I am very interested in this discussion.

For the OP: I would like so much to give you a hand to develop the thing.

So, any luck in getting the Amiga Explorer Protocol?

I have been in contact with the guys at AmigaExplorer and they have given me some pointers on what I would need to do. It is just a matter of finding time now. Currently juggling a million other projects too

I also would like to figure this out.

My motivation is to write amiga software on the PC and then transfer the code to the amiga automatically after compilation is completed.

I think the AmigaExplorer interface for windows is laughable but the Amiga side stuff is fine. May be better if we had a FUSE driver for linux.

Before people say "just use WinUAE"... i develop real hardware on the amiga and software to test it. WinUAE doesnt work in that context.
