i did flink with megacd intro
hi guys i made a version of flink for the cd32 with flink megacd intro.
The only problem is : you can't leave the intro, you have to look to the end. If there is interest i will upload it to the eab ftp. |

ok i tried to make an iso with makecd but something goes wrong, the cd boot but the animation seems to bug...
But i think this is because i made a bad iso. If i mount the iso with daemon tools and run it like a cd32 hd then everything works fine. Or perhaps winuae now emulate the good cd32 cd speed (2x) and this is too slow to display the anim ???? I'll give an other try. I could upload a cd32+hard disk version. (for the moment) The anim is surely too heavy for a cd32 cdrom i'll try to make a lighter version. Last edited by turrican3; 02 January 2014 at 03:30. |

I don't know the possibilities of the CDXL, but possibly a resolution like in Worms or Tower Assault could help?

Nice So is it working or not?
I like a lot Flink, but is there more differences in Cd32 and MegaCD versions? |

i could upload to eab server the flink intro compatible with amiga 1200...
I tested it with winuae (stock amiga 1200) and it works good. Like this you could find a way to play it with a real cd32 on a real cd-rom, perhaps it's possible to make it run. the only problem i see is the speed of the cd32 cd-rom 300 kb/s will perhaps be too slow. sorry but i can't achieve to make an iso who can launch trough winuae. It launches and can't display the intro.I will upload the file tomorrow. the file makes 314 mo !!! |

This game show that the amiga 1200 and the amiga cd32 wasn't strong enough for an amiga, the megacd version is better than the amigacd32 version !!!! what a shame megacd : 1991 amiga cd32 : 1993 !!!! amigans had been accustomed to something else with the amiga 500 ! Hopefully microcosm is really better on cd32. |

Thanks for link. In that time I check Cubex long-plays for both mega and cd32 versions. I wish it was possible to put some of this stuff in amiga version.

And yes Microcosm pisses over the mega-cd version, not that a crap game is worth shouting about! |

In my opinion Flink on Cd32 should have intro - I'm sure it's technically possible and cd32 hardware can handle it. Also upper status bar should be fixed so it will no longer cut the filed view. Rest stuff like more enemy sprites or that animated clouds in map I do not mind.

MegaCD uses a 12,5mhz M68000, and has two dedicated custom chips for scaling and rotation. Around 1mb of dedicated Audio-Video-Ram. Has a Ricoh audio processor performing 10 PCM channels added to the Yamaha FM inside the MegaDrive, controlled by a Z80 clocked 3,5mhz. 64 colours on screem from a 512 colours palette. 128 colour mode can be enabled using raster tricks, and, a single speed CD-Rom drive (150kb/s) What has the CD32 inside? 68EC20 CPU 14mhz Paula 4 PCM channels AGA chip 256 colour from a true-colour palette. And HAM8 static mode. Blitter chip. 2mb of shared RAM. A double speed CD-Rom drive (300kb/s) Akiko I/O chip controlling CD-Rom. (Capable of other limited tasks) If we take in consideration the CD32 is an A1200 put-in-a-box with an attached CD-Rom drive, and we know Amiga is a computer designed for multimedia purposes (gaming is a side-effect)... It's absolutelly logical that CD32 gets the upper hand on GFX and resolution modes. It has a better CD-Rom drive... What is quite important. However, the EC20, tied to the 2mb of shared ChipRam, can't perform it's full power. That means, as we all know, that will perform around TWICE than the A500... That's around the power of the MegaCD CPU. In order to have more computing power, the CD32 needs FastRam. That would beat the MegaCD CPU. SADLY CD32 games are meant to be run on a stock CD32... That is a serious disadvantage. In addition, the custom chips performing rotations and scaling on the Sega machine are way too powerful compared to what the Blitter and Akiko could do. Take as an example two games from the MegaCD catalogue. Batman Returns Soul Star. Once you've seen this, you'll notice CD32 can't match it. Would need a much competent CPU, and faster RAM at least. So, we can conclude that the Sega machine is better for gaming than our CD32. If we don't take in consideration the awful 64 colour standard video mode. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I would like to see that Flink+Sega CD intro working on our CD32 consoles. |

Well. You have to go back in time and see what was people's expectation at that time. Nobody wanted to play 2D side scroller on a CD machine, everybody was expecting games like Microcosm or Seventh Guest.
In that case, the CD32 is a far better machine then the MegaCD Why do you think Flink is so expensive nowadays on both CD32 and MegaCD ? It is because noboby bought that game when it was released. And Microcosm is one of the cheapest game on both machine because that was what people wanted to play and what they bought. No matter how they were wrong, all the crappy fmv games of that times were considered killer-apps. What I was hoping on the CD32 was Scavenger IV, Lost Eden, Megarace. Not Chaos Engine, Flink or Kid Chaos, no matter how better they were in fact. |

Really? Even though they looked great, it was obvious they were all style over substance, the main reason the CD-i flopped was because of these crappy fmv games (well and price, naff controller!) i was hoping for more of new games like Guardian, TFX, Inferno, any decent A1200 port with cd music, adventure 'talkie' versions etc no disk swapping was a big thing for Amiga owners, plus games that could music and sfx at the same time

But you're right, talkie version of point'n'click were also very expected. And in that case, the CD32 is also much more suited than the MegaCD. |
