A2630 + gvp hc+8
Hi Guys,
I currently run a GVP HC+8 on my A2000 with scsi drives and it all works well. I installed an A2630 25mhz card and things went very unstable. To get the A2630 working I had to set the GVP to 2mb which enabled me to boot up and install workbench in 68000 mode but when I switch back to 030 mode I get flashing LEDs crashing and general instability. I have 2 other scsi controllers which I have also tested in 030 mode, another GVP and an old A2091 with 6.1 roms which both act the same way.. I would really like to get this up and running stable in 030 mode but seem to be running out of options. The A2630 is rev9 and has v7 roms, the GVP is running a v4.13 rom. Any ideas? |

Forgot to add the A2630 has 2mb zip ram installed and seems to grab 4mb from the zorro2 address space, initially I tried running the GVP at 4mb but it was unstable in 68000 mode so I set it to 2mb which seems to work fine.
The only problem I can see which may be happening is the PSU may not have enough power to support 030 mode? |

The more I change settings and experiment the more its looking like a power issue.

Interesting that with no scsi card installed the A2000 runs all day long with the A2630 installed.
Are these power supplies really that puny. |

Don't know much about the A2630, but I have a G-force 030 in my A2000, and it has a jumper that let you set the ram as extended or auto.
So search for your card online, and search for jumper settings. I run a G-force 030 and a HC +8 and a network card just fine, so unless yours is damaged/caps problems in some way, it should work. |

J303 AUTO. As shipped, with the jumper off, the on-board
memory is auto-configured. If a jumper is set, all the cards DRAM is disabled. Tried this and now my system runs fine but slow, sysinfo shows the 68030 in operation but the speed seems to be similair to A1200 020. I guess this is a result of turning off the 2MB which cripples the card slightly but it does work! Could this mean I have problems with the 2MB ZIP ram? |

I am now testing a drive copy which should stress all the components to see if anything else in the loop is defective.

That seems to work fine no errors.
It may be a compatibility problem with memory types in the zorro2 8 meg space? or the Zip ram may be faulty somewhere. Who knows! |

So far I have found out that the A2630 works fine on its own, no memory issues.
The GVP Impact card also works fine on its own, no scsi problems or memory defects. They do not work well together in the 24Bit 8MB memory space, this is strange as I would expect more information about this problem being that these 2 cards were very popular back in the day. |

there is problem whit memory mapping on that card
just check sysinfo that address space are not in same area i have A2620 card and 2mg Fast in it and Zorro memory cards not work whit it overlapping whit turbo memory space. then i have GVP scsi card whit 2mg ram it work whit turbo but if i buy some Zip memory and add A2620 to full 4mg fast i can't use GVP memory any more only Scsi option |

Thanks, I had a feeling it was a memory problem, I guess another option would be a non-DMA scsi card and add another 2mb of zip ram to the 2630 to make it more usable.

A2630 + gvp hc+8
The memory on your 2630 is way faster than z2 mem anyway, so try to find a setup that works with 4MB on the 2630. Perhaps a A2091 would work?

I have a A2091 with no Ram, it does work but I have 6.1 Roms which are only suitable for hard drives upto 512mb.
An upgrade to 6.6 or 7 roms would help as well as some DRAMs but for the moment its being shelved. |

Do you have the correct mask value on the disks on the GVP card ?
I used an A2000 with A2630 (4M) and a GVP HC8+ for years, so it should be a working combination. |
