IRC coup d’état

Belgarath and eLowar have taken over irc and moved it to another server:

EDIT: irc://irc.projectmage.com:6669

Mibbit Link

RCK was out eating some cheese and was unable to fight off the rebel scum.

You may have noticed the user list at the top of the page being empty.

Has the IRC channel really moved or is it only temporally? I can't connect to the old address 'irc1.abime.net' at all

The irc1.abime.net and irc2.abime.net DNS entries have been removed. Now irc.abime.net points only to Abime, but the server is really empty (with most everyone moved both in preparation and to give the new software a proper test run) and will be down at least briefly soon when it gets updated and re-linked.

So it's best to join the new one right now, we'll post more information as soon as Abime IRC is updated and the servers are re-linked.

@RCK: Any chance I could get mod status in project.IRC? (e.g. to correct mis-information like the missing port, and maybe to make and edit sticky information)

Well you'll have to wait for RCK before irc.abime.net redirects, you can use the old server for now if you want, I even promise not to kick you off!

I can't connect to the new server with X-Chat. It does work with Mibbit. I checked my firewall settings and everything seem to be ok. Why use port 6669 btw?

The data center blocks 6667 at router level to squash bot nets (for DDoS attacks and other malice) on hacked servers. I'm not sure I understand how it helps a whole lot, but that's what they do, and the offer was far better than the competition except for that. Abime's side (irc.abime.net) will be back on port 6667 (as well as others) and linked to that server again very soon.

I'm sure at least a few users with X-Chat are online. The port would've been my guess, but since you're aware of that, I don't know what's the problem. What exactly happens?
