Accelerator and RAM help required.

Howdy

Does adding a faster stick of RAM to an accelerator affect its speed? i mean, would you see a difference in performance, if the RAM went from 80ns to 50ns? talking about accelerator cards for the A1200, Blizzard, Apollo etc.

thanks.

No, makes no difference, unless the accelerator has an option/jumper for using lower latency ram.

Many do though. e.g. some Phase 5 stuff had an early startup screen where you could select RAM latency.

I seem to remember a jumper on my old blizzard to select between 60ns/70ns but I never noticed much difference... it also said not to use EDO ram but pretty sure I got some of that working in there too!

A number of CPU cards *could* use EDO RAM, but almost no Amiga CPU cards took advantage of EDO's improvements, and just ran it like FPM RAM. EDO was designed to be backwards compatible, but it was not 100% compatible, which is why some manufacturers warned against using it, even though it worked just fine in many cases.
