Program to play ANIM files in a window on AGA Workbench?
Is there any program to play ANIM files in a window on AGA Workbench? Something like Multiview, but that works instead?

@Minuous
Seriously? Even if you ask Multiview to play the ANIM on a window in the Workbench screen? On my computer Multiview always played the ANIMs totally out of sync! @DamienD Very thanks, but I would like to play the ANIM on a window in the Workbench screen! It is because one day I thought how cool would be to have a useful program to play IFF ANIMs in a palletized AGA Workbench desktop in the same way that Picasso96 users and Windows users can do it in hi/true colors desktops. Ideally, the program must work well both in full screen and in a window in the Workbench and is important also that it remap the animation with the colors of the public screen and do not simply mess up with the screen palette. (there is one specific program which can play ANIMs very fastly but it does that). Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 01 February 2019 at 08:36. |

With Multiview the Animation view .Anim is very slow, I do not think there is a Player able to make you see a video in AGA Windows Mode. The best Player for animations are: Dopus4, CyberAnim, ShowAnim and AnimFX this last one allows to choose the type of screen but nothing Window, besides it can also execute other animations (CDXL) and SoundAnims.

I think that is also the problem here, the ANIMs plays very slowly. But sometimes I think that the frame delays are totally wrong or the animation just don't want to play when I click the "play" button on Multiview.

Yes, they do seem to be playing too slowly here too, but they do always play (at least all the ones I tried did).

I think that since the beginning Multiview never was a good ANIM player.
Or rather, AmigaOS never came with a really good ANIM player, to compete with Windows and MacOS. I think that is tragic because the ANIM format always seemed great for cartoons and computer animations in general and what's worse is that there seems to be no ANIM decoder or player for Windows or Linux. I thought it would be really cool to install the old TOSEC animations on my HD to watch anytime. Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 01 February 2019 at 19:05. |

Yes Multiview is not a good player at least for video, even on RTG screens is slow and jerky, you can see the difference in my little videos.

On the fast WinUAE-based system I'm using, animations that are supposed to play back at 60 FPS are only playing at about 6 FPS.
I suspect MultiView (or more accurately, animation.datatype) is not inefficiently written but actually has a bug in the playback timer code. Because if I drag the slider around, the animation changes very smoothly in real time, it is only the playback function that is slow. |

I tried in OS3.1.4 and the issue is the same.
I am using the EXTRAS/IFF/TEST_FILES/ANIM/COLORSPIN.256.ANIM file from the Developer CD 2.1 to test with, it is 32 frames each of 1/60th sec, so should take about half a second but instead takes about 6 seconds. |
