Ps3 Uae

How is Amiga emulation on the PS3? Stable?

Got a mate who's desperate to find out.

Wasn't there some DVD floating about with all the games nicely installed or whatnot?

How about CD32 CDs?

Sorry for vague.

Its alright, but it's linux, isnt it, so everything's a pain in the arse from the joypad to the wireless networking. Linux for the desktop still stinks.

Performance -wise it seems to do an A500 ok from my tests. But there's no vsync so you get screen tearing which I don't like.
Didn't try any cd32 isos.

Can't they just code UAE to run right from the PS3 environment (no Linux) like the do on PSP?

I think if you hacked the PS3 you'd be a god... not to mention quite wealthy if you created some hardware to sell

I've been mucking about with Ubuntu on my PC for a while now
and am about to put YDL 6.1 on my PS3. (after the 4 Gig download!!!)
It might be better now that RSX memory is available for swap.

Fingers X'd.

Yes HungryHorace, i have it installed for months. The wireless is a pig to get working but wired it works like a charm. Disabling the desktop effects it is very usable. For me it was just more of a curiosity to see it work on the PS3, and what it does, does well for the tasks at hand with only 192Mb Ram available.

Edit: if yu want to install it on a SD TV don't forget the alt key + left mouse click to move those big windows or you're stuck on the install!

YellowDog was the one that appeared first and had Sony's approval.

Everyone I've seen talking about seem to be using Ubuntu though these days.

re: wireless, i was hoping this might prove useful:

there is not a great deal of things i want to do with ps3-linux, but speccy & amiga emulation with wireless pads -are- amongst th

desktop effects, and even other 'standard' activities such as spreadsheet or worded documents are not really amongst them (my mac laptop manages all of those fine at the mo!) heaven forbid that i might one day actually 'phase out' my windows PC completely!

edit: i have a 250 gig hd 'in waiting' that i think will suit my needs, but like everyone else i am a wee bit disappointed in the limitations Sony have imposed (although i completely understand why they have set them in place).... it would be nice to have at least a bit more standard ram in place for this kind of usage.

Yes Hungry I've passed thorough that tutorial, but never actually proceeded with it because i thought that just to see how things moved i've done plenty enough. I think that if anyone is really serious of using Linux on PS3 is mandatory to make these upgrades to the system. In this way you have a fully functional Linux PS3 that you can do anything if properly configured.

For me XMB is more than enough. PS3 is only to play games and see movies streaming from the PC on the big screen. I'm happy enough with it.

Hehe I wonder what you can do with 250Gb. Even with Linux taking 10Gb I've still have 3Gb or so of a 40Gb hardrive full of games and demos.

i'm sure i will end up using the thing as a media-center, so i think it will fill up pretty quick!

i am of course also holding out that -one day- there will be some proper PS3 hacking to use all that space with!

Yep you're right. Nowadays we fill up our hardrives with movies, music and sh*** pretty quick.

"Look my new 500Gb hard drive!" 6 months later: "ups need to backup"

I dualboot my PC into Ubuntu (Hardy)
and will install YDL 6.1 onto my PS3
as soon as it's finished formatting!

If anyone wants to post links for either
E-UAE for Ubuntu Hardy X86 (I have Uae)
or E-UAE for YDL PPC that would be great.

You can get E-UAE for Hardy from Morgoth's Backport repo as for Yellow Dog I have no idea.

i got YDL installed on my new PS3... bluetooth ps3 pad, and the Sony keyboard on-top are working great. (ubuntu turned out to be more problems than it was worth)

E-uae runs well, but atm i am on an SDTV so it doesnt fit on the screen, so i've put the whole thing on hold until my HDTV turns up in the week.
I also noticed the pad mapping was only on the analogue stick with 'select' to fire :/ i had a similar problem with e-uae on my mac and my PS2-USB adaptor, so i guess it will just be a matter of creating a customised config file to suit general amiga usage (cd32 layout, with mouse on right analogue stick sounds good!)... i couldnt find a config file though, and e-uae on linux is new for me, so i might have to seek some advice on that one.

Alien Breed looked great though

It's working sweet!

I'm having a problem organizing and setting up the hard drive folders I nabbed off of my PC but.

Any tips?

*EDIT:I got it working, full screen (1200x680), Magic Workbench,
and I'm even posting this via Aweb.1 :O

I can't seem to get fast net speed, looks like the options only
allow for 36k modem speeds. o_O Also .mp3 playback is a joke.

I am having a retrogasm otherwise!

BIG THANKS TO MICK!

I don't see why not. (although I have not tried)

I guess you would need to initialize both sixaxis' by pressing the
PS button before loading e-uae and set up controls in the uae menu.

Anyone got an easy fix for the "select button for fire" problem?

All I could find was this...
