I was never strong about creating icons for my installs. I nees some advices about creating icons. Mean about normal, newicon and coloricon. Any suggestions, tools, colors and so on are more than welcome.

PPaint can at least save normal and newicon. However, it is good for creating/painting. Image2Icon or Newicon from Thomas can be used to create icons for example. Easy to use. You need to know the size and colour (if exists) limits of the different icon formats. If you want oldskool icons then use 4 colours. MWB icons use MWB colour palette. NewIcons can have up to 256 colours if I'm not wrong, or only 16/32?

Just try PPaint and save some brushes as icon and see what happens with different settings. Similar with Image2Icon/Newicon/....

Thanks daxb. but right now I give up - it consume too much time for me. If I find some time I will try.

Or I will ask for icons (icon, newicon, coloricon). Thanks

If you use the Icon.library by Peter Peter Keunecke, you can create icons by simply renaming an image .PNG to .INFO

If you want, you can also merge two images and create a DualPng Icon with two sides.

there's also this tool called ilbmtoicon: https://www.amigadev.com/ports/ilbmtoicon
Originally made for AROS, converts png and iff to .info file.
It's a cli tool, but it's very easy to use.

Usage:
Code:
ilbmtoicon DESCRIPTIONFILE IMAGE1 [IMAGE2] outfile
If two images are specified, both must be of the same file format, ie. PNG or ILBM. The image format determines whether an Amiga style icon (ILBM) or a PNG style icon (PNG) will be created.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

I want to edit an already existing "blank" drawer icon (Dual PNG).

I load it into Photoscape (Windows) - edit away, save, and it works on the Amiga.

But i don't have the second image, and not sure "how" to edit the second image as i can't extract it from the Amiga .info. Above i can see how to merge two PNG to a single icon, but how do you extract?

I tried googling this ilbmtoicon incase it has a reverse feature but google instead gave me (this is a serious google find - 3rd site down) "7,212 diarrhea icon stock photos"
WTH!!

It seems that you can create dual PNG icons by joining two PNG files: https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p...74&postcount=4

I would guess that the second PNG is direct under the first PNG.

Thanks for the reply but thats an answer to a different question. I'm looking for an extraction method... there is one outlined elsewhere here but the software is what i can't locate...

To convert some old icons I obtained the images using a script I have to get both pngs with alpha channel with ImageConverter (normal -_n- and selected -_s-).

Code:
ImageConverter Sys:#?.info -of Ram:%f_n -f PNG -img 0
ImageConverter Sys:#?.info -of Ram:%f_s -f PNG -img 1
In one of the icons (for the WBArmy game) I found it only had the old images in the icon, so using IconEdit I saved them first, later I converted them to 32bits with Ultimate Paint in the Pc and finally I joined them.

I liked my "lettered" folder icons but they were low quality originals so i beefed them up using Kens DualPNGs and now looking much nicer and matchingt he rest of my system. Also made a demo and cracktro folder icon.
