Toni, I sent you an email a couple of days ago. I guess you must be swamped. Are there any known bugs getting postscript emulation working in Windows Vista? I have 1.4.3 beta 7 but the option is simply greyed out no matter whether I install the AFPL or GPL versions of GhostScript.

Edit: Just noticed it shows up if I run WinUAE in Administrator mode. I've been "Taking Ownership" of the Hard Drive folders i've created for WinUAE to use as my hard drives, to avoid having to do that. I don't know whether WinUAE would use the VirtualStore folder, or simply complain that everything is write-protected.

Moved because not beta-specific.

"Works fine here" (Ghostscript installed with default settings, both Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit, WinUAE without admin privileges)

You should see following (path can be different) in winuaebootlog.txt when entering ports-panel:

C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.57\bin\gsdll32.dll: GPL Ghostscript rev 857 initialized

and in registry (if ghostscript was installed correctly)

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GPL Ghostscript\8.57]
"GS_DLL"="C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs8.57\\bin\\gsdll32.dll"
"GS_LIB"="C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs8.57\\lib;C:\\Program Files\\gs\\fonts;C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs8.57\\Resource"
WinUAE uses GS_DLL registry key to find installation directory. (also "AFPL Ghostscript"-path supported)

OK.. I only get the initialization message in winuaebootlog.txt when I run WinUAE in Administrator mode.

The AFPL Ghostscript keys are all correct in the registry.

Would you like me to try Taking Ownership of the WinUAE folder entirely, and the "gs" folder, along with registry entries, so there should be 0% permissions issues and see what happens?

I think your Ghostscript installation is not complete (permission problem), try reinstalling with "all users"-checkbox ticked in Ghostscript installer?

ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/AFPL/gs854/

Latest one is what i'm using.

There is no "All Users" option. My guess is that you have UAC turned off? These are all brand new installations of WinUAE and GhostScript (and Vista was just re-installed not too long ago). I'm not the type of person to modify settings from the default, though like I said I did change the permissions of the WinUAE folder so I could create folders & files without it the UAC prompt appearing.

I just did a little test. I reinstalled WinUAE after completely removing my old install. I then created a folder inside the WinUAE folder, whereby it showed me a UAC prompt. I then added that folder as a hard disk and booted from a floppy image, and tried to make a directory inside the hard disk folder. It complained and said it was write protected.

Looks like I was justified in setting up the permissions on the WinUAE folder. Anyway, I think there's almost no chance that would cause any issues, as this unmodified one also can't detect GhostScript.

I did another test. WinUAE will detect GhostScript only after I take ownership and change the permissions of the "AFPL GhostScript" registry Key and all subcontainers in HKLM\SOFTWARE

I'm positive my installations are completely fine.

I used this: ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/GPL/gs857/ and I have UAC enabled.

Perhaps latest AFPL is not fully Vista compatible yet?

Toni, i'm pretty sure I tried that one too.. Will confirm later. Did you upgrade from XP to Vista, or fresh install? It may be that the permissions have been migrated from XP to Vista if you did an upgrade. You'd have to uninstall ghostscript, and then run regedit, remove the registry keys, re-install GhostScript and see what happens.

I'll try 857 GPL later on, though I think I already tried it.
